Description

The Les Twentyman Foundation is seeking a dedicated and passionate Basketball Coach to join our team at the Braybrook 96ers Basketball Club. As a volunteer basketball coach, you will play a pivotal role in providing coaching and mentorship to young individuals aged 7-18, fostering their development both on and off the court. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of our inclusive sports program, promoting values of teamwork, confidence, and personal growth among our youth participants. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct basketball training sessions for youth aged 7-18, focussing on fundamental skills development, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.  
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate drills, exercises, and activities to enhance players’ individual skills and team dynamics. 
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to players during training sessions and competitive matches, fostering a positive learning environment.  
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches and volunteers to ensure effective coaching delivery and support during training sessions and game days. 
  • Coordinate team logistics, including player availability and match schedules in collaboration with the program coordinator. 
  • Act as a positive role model and mentor for youth participants, promoting values of respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance.  
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents and program staff regarding training schedules, team updates and any relevant information.  
  • Uphold the principles and values of the Les Twentyman Foundation, promoting inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement within the 96ers Basketball Club.  

Qualifications: 

  • A current working with Children Check (volunteer or employee) or willingness to obtain one. 
  • Passion for basketball, youth empowerment, and community service. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Patience and the ability to work with young people of diverse backgrounds and capabilities. 
  • Availability to coach on weekday afternoons and weekends as required. 
  • Reliability and commitment to fulfilling the volunteer schedule consistently.  
  • Must be at least 16 years old.

Time Commitment:  

This volunteer position requires a commitment of every Wednesday (4:30pm-6:30pm) and Saturday (10:00am-6:30pm) during the school term. On Saturday’s volunteers will be required to commit to two-hour coaching blocks, timing may be discussed and negotiate.
