Paralympics Australia is the recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for Para Powerlifting in Australia. It is responsible for overseeing the development, promotion, and governance of the sport nationwide, ensuring alignment with international standards set by World Para Powerlifting. As the NSO, Paralympics Australia supports athletes, coaches, and officials through high-performance pathways, talent identification, and competition opportunities, while also advocating for inclusion and excellence in para sport.
The Gen32 Program is a part-time coaching and learning opportunity approximately 1 to 1.5 days per week until 31 December 2026. Coaches will be embedded within QAS and play a key role in identifying, attracting, and developing the next generation of Paralympians. This role will require occasional interstate travel and weekend work.
The Person:
We’re casting the net wide and thinking innovatively. You might be:
- A current sports coach (para or non-para-athletes).
- An early-career high-performance coach.
- A recent graduate in exercise science, allied health, or related fields with a passion for coaching.
- A professional with strong knowledge of disability who wants to apply it to coaching.
- An allied health or sport/exercise professional seeking a new challenge.
Responsibilities:
- Coach Para athletes in the development phase.
- Administrative Duties (approx. 2 hrs/week):
- Programming via TeamBuildr (costs covered by PPA).
- Biweekly updates to PPA Head Coach or Pathways Performance Manager.
- 30-min mentoring sessions 2–3 times/month with PPA Head Coach.
- Deliver Para Powerlifting workshops and educational sessions within QAS and within Queensland,
- Support PPA-approved and unsanctioned events in Queensland.
- Attend QAS Learning Labs and professional development activities.
- Drive annual and professional development plans.
- Participate in regular review meetings with QAS, NSO/NSOD, and AIS representatives.
Qualifications:
- Current coaching accreditation in S&C (or willingness to obtain) OR experience in Powerlifting and/or Olympic lifting coaching
- Current Blue Card.
The following must be completed prior to employment
- Compliance with ASC, NSO/NSOD, and QAS integrity policies, Sport Integrity Australia training (codes of conduct, anti-doping policies and safeguarding).
- Signed Win Well Pledge.
- Completion of World Para Powerlifting Level 4 Coaching Course.
- Completion of World Para Powerlifting Level 4 Technical Official Course.
