ABOUT THE ROLE
As the senior basketball leader at IBA, the GM Basketball Operations is responsible for all on-court programs, player and coach development, high-performance strategy, and competition delivery across the Association.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will set the basketball philosophy and style of play for the entire organisation, ensuring a cohesive, development-focused approach is embedded from juniors through to NBL1.
This is a hands-on, visible role. You'll be courtside at games, at competitions, and in the gym — leading by example and driving standards across every program.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Setting IBA's overall basketball philosophy and IBA Style of Play Framework across all representative and competition programs
• Providing strategic oversight of Junior (JPL & SJL), Senior Waratah, and Barrengarry representative programs
• Leading player and coach development strategy aligned to Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles
• Overseeing talent identification, coach selection, and representative team selection processes
• Directing Learn to Play, High Performance Training, and Schools Programs
• Leading coaching accreditation pathways and collaborating with Basketball NSW on referee development
• Acting as IBA's primary basketball delegate with Basketball NSW and Basketball Australia
• Attending competition rounds, tournaments, and representative events across the season
• Providing regular performance reporting to the Board
• Seeking collaborative opportunities with the Illawarra Hawks (NBL)
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are a respected basketball figure — ideally a former professional player who has transitioned into coaching and basketball leadership. You bring deep tactical knowledge, genuine credibility with players and coaches, and a clear vision for building high-performance culture from the ground up.
You're as passionate about a kid playing their first game as you are about winning at NBL1 level. You lead by being present, setting standards, and inspiring the people around you.
Essential:
• Extensive playing experience at a high level, preferably professional
• Demonstrated high-level coaching experience and basketball tactical knowledge
• Strong understanding of basketball pathways, athlete development, and high-performance environments
• Proven leadership and program management capability in a sporting organisation
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Availability to travel to competition rounds, tournaments, and representative events
• Working with Children's Check, National Police Check, and current First Aid Certificate
Desirable:
• Basketball Australia Level 3 coaching accreditation or higher
• Experience in NBL1 or equivalent semi-professional league
• Sound knowledge of Basketball NSW and Basketball Australia frameworks
• Established network within the Australian basketball community
• Tertiary qualification in sports management, coaching, or related discipline
WHY JOIN IBA?

This role puts you in the driver's seat to build something lasting — a basketball culture that the Illawarra can be proud of for years to come.
