Illawarra Basketball Association (IBA) is seeking an experienced and passionate NBL1 Manager to lead the operational delivery of our NBL1 semi-professional program across our men's and women's teams.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the NBL1 Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of IBA's NBL1 program. From player contracts and salary cap compliance through to game-day venue setup and sponsor hosting, this role owns the full operational picture.
You'll work closely with the GM Basketball Operations on basketball strategy and player recruitment, and with the EGM Basketball Administration on budgets, contracts, and commercial obligations.
This role requires availability on evenings and weekends during the season, with travel to away fixtures as required.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Leading all NBL1 home game-day operations — delivering a professional, entertaining experience for players, sponsors, and fans
• Managing player recruitment, contracts, and salary cap compliance for men's and women's squads
• Overseeing league compliance, player registrations, transfers, and import player documentation
• Coordinating travel, accommodation, and logistics for all away fixtures
• Hosting corporate sponsors and delivering on all sponsorship obligations at home games
• Managing the NBL1 program budget and providing monthly financial reporting
• Fostering a high-performance, inclusive team culture across both programs
• Liaising with the Illawarra Hawks (NBL), Basketball NSW, player agents, and the NBL1 league office
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are an experienced sports team manager who thrives in the fast-paced world of semi-professional basketball. You understand the unique demands of running a competitive program at this level, and you take genuine pride in delivering a premium experience for players, coaches, sponsors, and fans.
Essential:
• Demonstrated experience in semi-professional or professional sports team management
• Strong understanding of NBL1 league operations, regulations, and compliance
• Proven event/match-day management capability
• Experience with player contracts, salary cap administration, and roster logistics
• Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Financial literacy and budget management experience
• Availability for evenings, weekends, and travel during the NBL1 season
• Working with Children's Check, National Police Check, First Aid Certificate, and current driver's licence
Desirable:
• Previous experience in NBL1, NBL, WNBL, or equivalent league
• Experience in corporate hospitality and sponsor hosting
• Knowledge of Basketball Australia / Basketball NSW compliance frameworks
• Established relationships within the Australian basketball community
• Tertiary qualification in sports management, event management, or related field
