Swim Academy Network | Melbourne (Brimbank, Essendon, Parkville & Broadmeadows)
Swim Academy Network is seeking a passionate and motivated coach to join our growing squad program as an Assistant Open & Metro Coach. This role is ideal for a current or former swimmer, emerging coach, or experienced learn-to-swim teacher who wants to play a meaningful role in athlete development within a structured pathway program.
Based across our venues in Melbourne’s western and northern suburbs, you will work within a collaborative coaching team supporting swimmers from junior development through to national and international level competition.

Our squad pathway supports swimmers from their first competitive experiences all the way through to high-performance international-level racing. Our athletes compete under Western Melbourne Propulsion Swimming Club, one of the premier competitive programs in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

About the Role
The Assistant Open & Metro Coach plays a key role in delivering high-quality squad sessions, supporting athlete progression, and contributing to a positive team culture. You will work alongside senior coaches to deliver structured training programs that emphasise technical excellence, skill development, and athlete enjoyment.
This role will suit someone who:
- Has a strong background in competitive swimming or sport as an athlete or coach
- Enjoys mentoring young athletes and building positive relationships with families
- Wants to develop their coaching skills within a performance pathway
- Thrives in a team-based coaching environment
- Values inclusive sport and supporting swimmers of all abilities
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver well-planned, engaging, and technically focused squad training sessions
- Assist with planning and implementing training programs for our Junior, Metro, and Open squads
- Provide individual feedback to swimmers to support technical and performance development
- Support swimmers at competitions and club events
- Build positive relationships with swimmers and families to support athlete retention and development
- Assist with leadership of squads, including the PEGS squad program
- Support and encourage participation of All Abilities and Multi Class swimmers within the program
- Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive training environment aligned with Swim Academy Network values
- Uphold and actively promote Child Safe Standards and safeguarding practices in all interactions with swimmers
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a coach who brings energy, professionalism, and a genuine love for sport.
Ideal candidates may have:
- Competitive swimming or sport experience
- Coaching experience within swimming or another sport
- Swim Australia Development Coach qualification (or willingness to obtain) and/or an Australian Swim Coach Licence
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Working with Children Check (Victoria)
- A strong interest in athlete development, inclusive sport, and performance pathways
