About the SMJFL:
The South Metro Junior Football League is the largest independent junior football league in Australia. With over 460 teams, approximately 11,000 participants, 26 member clubs and more than 1,000 umpires under management, we play a significant role in the development of junior sport across South Metro Melbourne. About the Role:
Reporting to the General Manager - Commercial & Marketing, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the league's marketing, communications and branding. You'll play a key role in delivering our annual marketing plan and supporting our corporate partnership program.
This is a full-time position that also supervises seasonal media interns.
What You'll Be Doing:
Marketing & Communications
- Build and manage the SMJFL's annual marketing calendar
- Manage all social media accounts and stay across emerging trends and content opportunities
- Write, curate and distribute e-newsletters and sponsor eDMs via MailChimp
- Manage the SMJFL website, keeping content accurate, fresh and easy to navigate
- Create content for themed rounds, seasonal promotions and SMJFL alumni stories
- Produce print publications including the Annual Report and Footy Record
- Write and edit copy, and proofread across campaigns and PR activities
- Plan and deliver the annual SMJFL Media Day
- Support corporate partners in activating their partnership entitlements
- Provide quarterly marketing analytics reports to the Board and end-of-season reports for sponsors
Events & Activations
- Produce digital and physical content for all SMJFL events including presentations, invitations and venue visuals
- Coordinate media coverage at events and publish content promptly
- Work with partners on content for corporate activations
Operations & Administration
- Manage the SMJFL Accredited Photographers Program
- Coordinate SMJFL nominations for the AFL Victoria Media Awards and other industry awards
- Maintain media equipment, sponsor collateral and props
- Provide guidance to member clubs on marketing and communications best practice
- Assist with the development of the SMJFL filming procedures criteria and be an active member of any associated Working Party
What We're Looking For:
Skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of marketing/communications experience
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign), Canva and basic website management, ideally on Wix/EditorX
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Solid organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience managing or mentoring staff
- An analytical mindset with the ability to report on marketing performance
- Photography and/or videography experience is a bonus, or a willingness to learn

Other Requirements:
Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check, a Play by the Rules Child Protection and Safeguarding Course Certification, and a current First Aid/CPR certification.
Some after-hours and weekend work is required across the football season but is balanced within your usual working hours.
Candidates must have Australian work rights and be eligible to work in Australia without sponsorship.
