About the Role
The Events and Competitions Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of Hockey Australia’s national and international suite of events. The role involves the administrative and operational delivery of events including National Championships and other national and international competitions with a key focus on event competition functions such as the development and review of tournament regulations and competition documentation, scheduling and fixturing of competitions, and the planning and delivery of events in collaboration with host partners and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver allocated Hockey Australia national events, ensuring high operational standards and delivery within approved budgets.
- Coordinate event delivery both remotely and on-site at venues across Australia.
- Lead the development and management of competition schedules and fixturing, ensuring compliance with tournament regulations and athlete welfare requirements.
- Develop, review and refine tournament regulations, operational manuals, event handbooks and other competition documentation.
- Oversee event operations and logistics, including coordination of service providers and venue requirements such as infrastructure and event setup.
- Ensure all events align with Hockey Australia policies, governance standards, integrity frameworks and risk management requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Member Associations, venues, officials, suppliers, partners and other key stakeholders.
- Support international and major event delivery (e.g. FIH Pro League), manage designated operational areas, and contribute to event evaluation and continuous improvement.
Experience, Skills and Attributes
- Tertiary qualification in Event Management, Sport Management, Business or a related discipline is preferred but not essential.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning and delivery, ideally within a sport or major events environment.
- Experience in competition or tournament management, including scheduling, fixturing or event operations will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of the sport of hockey, including rules and tournament regulations, is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of contemporary sport and event management practices, including governance, risk and compliance requirements, with willingness to travel as needed.
Due to the nature of the sporting industry, irregular hours, including weekend and after-hours work will be required from time to time.
