Basketball Australia (BA) is the national governing body for one of the country’s fastest-growing and most-loved sports. In partnership with our State and Territory member associations, we lead, develop and promote the game from grassroots participation through to our world-class national teams - the Boomers, Opals, Rollers, Gliders and 3x3 programs.

Safe Sport
Basketball Australia and our State & Territory Member Associations are committed to fostering a basketball environment that supports safe and positive participation across all levels of the sport. ‘Safe Sport’ is the framework that will be implemented to provide a national approach for enhancing basketball culture and behaviour. It focuses on strengthening wellbeing, promoting inclusion and improving game-day environments. Safe Sport is a cornerstone of the Australian Basketball Vision 2040.
The Opportunity
The Safe Sport Officer is new fixed term opportunity to support the project. It is responsible for promoting safe, inclusive and respectful behaviours across basketball through education, engagement and community leadership. This position plays a critical role in making safe sport visible, understood and lived across basketball environments.
The Safe Sport Framework provides the national approach for improving basketball culture and behaviour through a focus of strengthening wellbeing, promoting inclusion and improving game-day environments.
The Safe Sport Officer brings the Framework to life through education delivery, national campaigns, building awareness, strengthening capability, enhancing visibility of Safe Sport, community engagement and practical resources that support clubs, volunteers and associations to create safer environments.

Education and Awareness
- Develop and deliver safeguarding and integrity education initiatives.
- Support the rollout of national learning resources and training content.
- Promote understanding of safe sport standards across the sport.
- Provide practical guidance and resources to clubs and associations.
Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships across the basketball community.
- Support initiatives that promote respectful behaviours at games and events.
- Act as an advocate for positive culture across all levels of basketball.
Program Delivery
- Support the delivery of national campaigns relating to safety, respect and wellbeing.
- Assist with the development of resources and promotional material.
- Coordinate engagement initiatives for the sport.
Capability Development
- Support volunteers, administrators and staff with practical tools and guidance.
- Build the capability of local associations to manage safeguarding and behaviour issues.
- Promote continuous improvement through education and engagement.
Reporting and Feedback
- Collect feedback on issues affecting safety and behaviour.
- Prepare reporting and insights.
- Identify emerging risks and recommend practical solutions.
Relationships and Influence
- Build effective, genuine, positive and professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor on integrity issues.
- Support national alignment with integrity and safeguarding expectations.
Who are you?
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in education, governance, sport integrity or a related field.
- Experience in integrity, education, compliance, governance or regulatory environments.
- Demonstrated experience to collaborate, connect and manage key, stakeholders at all levels.
- Sport sectors experience preferable.
Skills & Capabilities

Position Information
- Report to - Integrity Manager
- Full time role – located at the State Basketball Centre Wantirna South
- Due to the nature of the industry the role will require work to be undertaken on some weekends in line with events or competitions
- Some domestic travel required
- Fixed Term for 12 months
- You must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. You are required to notify the Head of P&C if your right to work in Australia ceases.
