Safe Sport

Basketball Australia and our State & Territory Member Associations are committed to fostering a basketball environment that supports safe and positive participation across all levels of the sport. ‘Safe Sport’ is the framework that will be implemented to provide a national approach for enhancing basketball culture and behaviour. It focuses on strengthening wellbeing, promoting inclusion and improving game-day environments. Safe Sport is a cornerstone of the Australian Basketball Vision 2040.

The Opportunity

The Safe Sport Framework provides the national structure for improving behaviour, accountability and integrity across the sport.

The Integrity Manager is responsible for leading the national governance, integrity and disciplinary elements of Basketball Australia’s Safe Sport Framework. This role ensures consistent standards across tribunals, disciplinary systems, integrity governance and cultural accountability frameworks across basketball’s member organisations.

With a strong focus on fairness, safety and accountability, the Integrity Manager plays a key role in safeguarding participants, enhancing game-day experiences and building trust and confidence in Basketball’s integrity systems nationwide.

Lead Integrity and Governance

  • Provide national leadership in integrity management and governance systems.
  • Establish and maintain effective disciplinary processes and decision-making frameworks.
  • Ensure fairness, transparency and consistency in the management of misconduct.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in integrity and governance systems.

Set National Standards and Consistency

  • Develop and implement national integrity standards and guidelines.
  • Support member organisations with governance and compliance.
  • Promote best practice integrity systems across the sport.

Drive Culture and Behaviours

  • Lead initiatives that improve game-day culture and participant behaviour.
  • Support respectful environments for referees and officials.
  • Promote expected behaviours at across all levels of basketball.

Build Capability and Leadership

  • Develop leadership initiatives that support integrity and safe sport practices.
  • Equip administrators, officials and leaders with tools and guidance to manage integrity issues.
  • Build long term capability across the basketball system through education and engagement.

Reporting and Risk Management

  • Monitor misconduct trends and integrity risks nationally.
  • Prepare reporting and insights.
  • Identify emerging risks and recommend practical solutions.

Relationships and Influence

  • Build effective, genuine, positive and professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on integrity issues.
  • Support national alignment with integrity and safeguarding expectations.

Who are you?

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, governance, sport integrity or a related field.
  • Experience in law enforcement, integrity, compliance, governance or regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated experience to collaborate, connect and manage key, stakeholders at all levels.
  • Sport sector experience preferable.

Position Information

  • Reports to – GM Integrity & Security
  • Full time role 
  • Located at the State Basketball Centre Wantirna South
  • Direct Reports – Safe Sport Officer
  • Due to the nature of the industry the role will require work to be undertaken on some weekends in line with events or competitions
  • Some domestic travel required
  • Fixed Term for 12 months
  • You must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. You are required to notify the Head of P&C if your right to work in Australia ceases.
