About Netball Queensland

Netball Queensland (NQ) is the peak state sporting organisation responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball across Queensland.

Our purpose is to enrich lives through netball, and our 2026–2028 Strategic Plan sets a clear growth agenda focused on:

  • Growing sustainable and inclusive netball environments
  • Growing winning teams
  • Growing love for the game and loyalty to our brand
  • Growing a premier sport, entertainment and community venue in south-east Queensland

As custodians of netball in Queensland, we are proud of our commitment to reconciliation through our Innovate RAP and our responsibility to create safe, inclusive and accessible environments for all.

NQ is also home to the Queensland Firebirds, who compete in Suncorp Super Netball, and Nissan Arena, a premier venue hosting community sport, major events and competitions.

At Netball Queensland, our people are enablers of our success. We offer a high-performance, values-led culture with flexibility, purpose and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on sport across the state.

The Opportunity

Coaching and umpiring are the lifeblood of netball. As Workforce Development Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of pathways, education and workforce strategies that build the capability, confidence and sustainability of coaches and umpires across Queensland.

This is a, hands-on role that blends strategic thinking with operational delivery. You will work at scale, ensuring equitable access to development opportunities across metropolitan, regional and remote communities, while strengthening the volunteer and performance pathways that underpin participation and success.

If you are passionate about the impact quality coaching and officiating have on participation, experience and performance — and you thrive in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment — this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of netball in Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Workforce Development

  • Strengthen coach and umpire participation, particularly in regional and remote areas
  • Align state delivery with Netball Australia accreditation frameworks
  • Develop and manage a statewide presenter and developer network
  • Identify and support talented coaches and umpires through defined pathways

Coach Development

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of coach education programs, content and resources
  • Deliver accredited workshops (Development to Advanced, and Elite as required)
  • Support beginning and volunteer coaches with age-appropriate, inclusive coaching practices
  • Partner with participation teams to deliver non-accredited development programs

Umpire Development

  • Lead community and pathway umpire education, accredited and non-accredited
  • Oversee umpiring services across Netball Queensland competitions
  • Manage umpiring pathways, performance programs and selection processes
  • Lead appointments for bench officials at Suncorp Super Netball matches in Queensland
  • Manage complaints and resolution processes relating to officials and competitions

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and develop direct reports and a broader network of coach and umpire developers
  • Manage the Workforce Development budget and reporting requirements
  • Represent Netball Queensland at national workforce and officiating forums
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Commercial and High Performance teams to promote workforce initiatives

Culture, Safety and Inclusion

  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion across workforce development
  • Role model respectful behaviours and contribute to a safe, inclusive workplace
  • Support Netball Queensland’s child-safe commitments and obligations

About You

You are an energetic, credible and values-driven leader with deep expertise in coach and/or umpire development. You can think strategically, deliver practically, and build trusted relationships across a diverse stakeholder network.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in teaching, business, sports management or relevant equivalent experience
  • A strong personal brand aligned to Netball Queensland’s values
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience managing people or a commitment to developing these skills
