Description

Reporting to the Head of Medical Services at Foundry Athletic, the successful applicant will be required to work as an integral part of a broader team of health professionals to provide a holistic model of medical care for all players. The Sandringham Zebras Doctor is expected to be a brilliant communicator, proactive in their approach and represent the Club and Foundry Athletic.

This is a part time role that provides game day coverage according to the Sandringham fixture, with most games on weekends. Foundry Athletic prides itself on offering attractive working conditions and benefits to acknowledge the flexibility required as part of this role.

As the Team Doctor:

Ensure optional level of professionalism, expertise and model of care at all times, by:

  • Overseeing injury prevention, diagnosis and treatment
  • Advising on injury prognosis and performance impact
  • Collaborate with Head Physiotherapist and High Performance Manager on rehabilitation plans
  • Ensure player health and all regulatory requirements are met
  • Manage emergency on-field events, with support from other staff
  • Oversee Consussion Management of playing list
  • Where required, provide imaging and specialist referrals
  • Provide medical care at all games, including Practice Matches and Finals (March - September, 2026)
  • Provide on-call support as required
  • Advise Coaches, players and staff on injury impact and prevention strategies
  • Ensure compliance with AFL rules, including anti-doping and medical ethics
  • Maintain confidential and accurate medical records
  • Stay up to date with the latest sports medicine practices

Collaborate and support internal and external stakeholders, including Staff, by:

  • Providing regular communication, and a high level of transparancy with, key stakeholders including but not limited to, the Head of Medical Services, Head Physiotherapist, Head of High Performance and Coaching staff
  • Making informed, timely decisions in high pressure situations, particularly regarding game day injuries and emergencies
  • Work seamlessly as part of an integrated, holistic model of care to support player health, wellbeing and recovery
  • Remaining in control of emotions, showing empathy and compassion and delivering communication in a calm, measured and respectful manner, especially in pressure situations
  • Demonstrate, through leadership, willingess and capacity to learn, evolve and share knowledge, both internally and externally

Demonstrate knowledge of, and adherence to, Risk, Governance and Compliance requirements:

  • Ensure that all activities are performed in accordance with the governance and compliance requirements of Sandringham Zebras and Foundry Athletic
  • Report all OHS issues, hazards and incidents promptly to Foundry Athletic Head of Medical Services
  • Participate in the development and implementation of specific OHS risk management strategies as appropriate

Hours of Work:

This role is predominantly a game-day on-site role, however there will be q requirement to be accessible throughout the week, both for players and other Sandringham Zebras staff. To success in this role, you must be willing and able to work according to the VFL fixture (normally confirmed in February, 2026), with attractive conditions attached to the position, recognising the need for our people to balance their family life and personal commitments alongside the demands of the position.
