About Netball Victoria

At Netball Victoria, we’re more than a sporting organisation, we’re a community dedicated to empowering lives through netball. Guided by our values of empowerment, innovation, and leadership, we aim to inspire and grow the sport while making a lasting impact - from grassroots to elite level.

About the role

We’re seeking an experienced Media & PR Specialist to drive proactive media engagement, elevate brand reputation, and support strategic organisational priorities.

Reporting to the GM – Corporate Affairs, you’ll lead media and PR activities across Netball Victoria, the Melbourne Vixens and key programs and initiatives. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, media outlets, players, coaches and broadcast partners to amplify stories, manage communications, and protect the organisation’s reputation.

This is a fast-paced, high-impact role suited for someone who thrives in sport, is calm under pressure, has exceptional communication skills, and can influence and manage diverse stakeholder groups. You’ll also play a critical role in media operations on game days and during major announcements.

Working across Media and PR, Strategic Communications, Agency & Stakeholder Management you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Leading proactive media pitching, storytelling and coverage across programs, events, competitions and teams.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key media stakeholders.
  • Acting as the central contact for media enquiries, issues, announcements and opportunities.
  • Supporting crisis communication responses and contributing to the organisation’s issues management processes.
  • Coordinating media opportunities with players and staff, including key messaging and preparation.
  • Creating high-quality media releases, match reports and PR assets for the Vixens, SN Reserves, VNL and Netball Victoria.
  • Managing media and broadcast operations for Melbourne Vixens home and away games, including briefings, post-match conferences and reporting.
  • Working with broadcast partners to drive viewership, editorial coverage and brand amplification.
  • Contributing to strategic communication and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Supporting key speeches, copy and integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Managing PR agency relationships and contractor support.
  • Overseeing reporting, data analysis and tracking of media performance.
  • Providing guidance to staff, trainees and work placements.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in media, PR or communications - ideally in sport or high-performance environments.
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, PR, journalism or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in proactive and reactive media engagement.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • High-level stakeholder management skills and experience working with media, athletes and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Understanding of sporting environments and Netball Victoria’s strategic priorities.
  • Knowledge of diversity, inclusion and community sport principles.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Driver’s licence and ability to travel within Victoria.

What we offer:

  • Flexibility: Hybrid working arrangements and recognition that our work doesn’t always fit a 9-to-5 schedule.
  • Exclusive Perks: Free parking onsite, gym access, tickets to Melbourne Vixens home games, and partner discounts.
  • Wellbeing Support: Employee Assistance Program (EAP), annual flu vaccines, and a welcoming, inclusive culture.
