Position Purpose: Baseball Queensland is a professional sporting organisation with extensive community reach, committed to enhancing the reputation and performance of baseball across Queensland. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Performance Pathways Manager (PPM) is responsible for leading, planning, delivering, and evaluating all elements of Baseball Queensland’s performance pathways, ensuring the sustained development and success of athletes, coaches, and officials progressing toward elite-level baseball at local, national, and international levels. The PPM will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across all performance programs, while also ensuring the pathways remain contemporary, evidence-based, and aligned with modern high-performance practices, including the effective use of baseball specific technologies and data. This role focuses on creating a club-centric and regionally supported system, where Baseball Queensland provides leadership, frameworks, and resources that enable clubs, regions, and coaches to thrive. Key Responsibilities - High Performance Leadership & Strategy
- Develop, implement, and review annual Performance Pathways operating plans aligned with Baseball Queensland’s Strategic Plan.
- Provide strategic leadership for the design and evolution of Queensland’s performance pathways, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment from grassroots to elite levels.
- Take primary responsibility for preparing reports and briefing papers for the CEO, Board, funding bodies, and relevant government departments, drawing on support from the CEO and other team members as required.
- Develop draft budgets and deliver programs within approved financial parameters.
- Recruit, manage, mentor, and support performance pathway staff, contractors, and technical leads.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders and ensure clear, consistent, and transparent communication.
- Represent Baseball Queensland at Baseball Australia forums, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
- Monitor and integrate contemporary trends in high-performance sport, athlete development, and coach education. Player Programs & Pathways
- Oversee the management and delivery of Baseball Queensland representative teams and performance initiatives.
- Lead the design and delivery of player development programs, including emerging talent initiatives, targeted cohorts (e.g. women and youth women), and regional development programs.
- Work collaboratively with Regions and Clubs to establish clear development benchmarks, selection principles, and performance metrics.
- Support Regional Development Coaches and clubs in strengthening youth and talent development environments.
- Contribute to the development of international and interstate pathway opportunities, including exposure, touring, and progression initiatives. Technical Performance & Innovation
- Provide informed oversight of the use of baseball-specific performance technologies, ensuring they are applied appropriately, ethically, and consistently across programs.
- Work with coaches and technical staff to integrate tools such as performance analytics, athlete monitoring systems, and skill-specific technologies into development frameworks.
- Ensure evidence-based decision-making underpins athlete development, workload management, and program design.
- Maintain an understanding of international best practice in baseball performance, including pathways into collegiate and professional environments. Coach Education & Workforce Development
- Establish and maintain a network of coach developers, facilitators, assessors, and mentors.
- Oversee the identification, selection, and development of Baseball Queensland representative coaches in consultation with Regions and Clubs.
- Support the delivery of coach education aligned with Baseball Australia frameworks and contemporary performance practice.
- Conduct practical coaching observations and assessments where required. Governance, Integrity & Other Duties
- Ensure all programs operate in accordance with Baseball Queensland, Baseball Australia, and relevant integrity, safeguarding, and risk management policies.
- Complete assigned projects and escalate emerging risks or areas of concern to the CEO in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as reasonably required by the CEO.
- Provide or be eligible to obtain a Working with Children Blue Card and National Police Check.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in sports management, sport science, human movement, business, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in talented athlete and coach development, across male and female pathways.
- A balance of strategic leadership experience and practical high-performance knowledge.
- Strong strategic, operational, and financial planning skills.
- Proven leadership and people management capability, including staff and contractor development.
- A sound understanding of the Australian sporting system and pathway structures.
- Working knowledge of contemporary baseball performance technologies and athlete management systems.
- Experience engaging with international pathways, including exposure to collegiate or overseas development models (highly regarded).
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with volunteers and small professional teams (highly regarded).
- Experience in the management and application of Baseball specific technologies including, Driveline, Rapsodo, Blast Motion, Pitch AI and Athlete Monitoring Systems.
