| Evidence-based Nutrition Support - In consultation with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and coaches, develop, implement and critically review the AusTriathlon High Performance nutrition strategy, ensuring it is impactful and sustainable.
- In collaboration with the coach, lead a performance by design approach to nutrition to ensure training and nutrition demands are aligned across the high performance program.
- Conduct annual nutritional screenings with categorised athletes, identifying appropriate nutritional interventions, as well as conducting periodic monitoring and review of athlete progress.
- Provide high-level, individualised, and group-based performance nutrition support to a targeted cohort of elite athletes, including assessment, intervention, monitoring, and review.
- Optimise athlete performance, health and recovery through evidence-based nutritional strategies integrating them into training, recovery, and competition. Focus on optimising key performance areas such as energy availability, recovery, immune function, travel/competition fuelling strategies, and bone health risk mitigation.
- Work closely with the targeted athletes, their coaches, AusTriathlon nutrition partners and potentially individual athlete sponsors to ensure their nutrition demands are tailored specifically to their performance goals, training requirements (heat, altitude, heavy training blocks), and yearly plans.
- Work with the coaches in creating a positive and healthy performance nutrition environment in training and competition locations.
- Aligned with each individual athlete’s plan, understand and monitor the nutrition and body composition goals of the season.
- Where required, ensure adequate and appropriate supplement support within those specified adaptation periods.
Education, Research and Innovation - Design and deliver high-quality nutrition education programs for athletes, coaches, parents, and support staff throughout the high performance pathway.
- Develop and integrate athlete education modules for athletes from Aspire through to the Ascent Academy.
- Maintain currency on relevant nutrition research and innovation projects that advance the knowledge and practice of high-performance nutrition within the sport of triathlon.
Collaboration and Administration - Collaborate closely with coaching staff and other performance support staff (e.g., performance scientist, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning, psychology and performance wellbeing,) to ensure an integrated, coach led and athlete-centric approach to performance support.
- Attend regular Performance Team meetings, proactively contributing evidence-based nutritional information to the coach and other performance support practitioners.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the National Institute Network (NIN) partners (e.g., AIS, State Institutes/Academies of Sport) to align nutrition service priorities and leverage system resources, especially the Nutrition Lead for Ply.
- Provide proactive and timely advice to AusTriathlon on ensuring all policies and guidelines related to athlete nutrition, including safe and effective supplement protocols in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Australian anti-doping regulations are fit for purpose.
- Maintain and share accurate and up-to-date records of all nutritional screenings, measurable metrics and athlete progress/feedback.
