We are seeking a passionate and people centred Player Development Manager to join the Saints AFLW program in a fulltime, fixed term position. This role supports the personal growth, wellbeing, and career development of our AFLW players, helping create an environment where they can thrive on and off the field.
Reporting directly to the General Manager AFLW and working closely with key support staff, the position leads the design and delivery of individualised programs that strengthen player readiness, resilience, and life skills throughout their football journey. With a focus on relationships, education pathways, wellbeing, and transition support, this role plays a vital part in helping players navigate the unique pressures of elite sport and prepare for life beyond football.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Player Development and Wellbeing
- Deliver tailored Individual Development Plans for all listed players
- Guide players across personal development, life skills, career planning, and transition readiness
- Build trusted relationships while maintaining confidentiality and respect
- Support players through key transitions including draft, delisting, injury rehabilitation, and retirement
- Assist with wellbeing checks and timely support as required
Education, Careers and Life Skills Pathways
- Coordinate off field development opportunities including apprenticeships and study pathways
- Connect players to internal and external support networks to enhance their personal and career development
- Promote programs that build confidence, independence, and long term preparedness for life beyond football
Collaboration, Administration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with coaches, wellbeing staff, psychologists, and external providers
- Maintain accurate documentation of player development plans and activities
- Represent the Club across AFL and AFLPA programs and initiatives
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive Club culture through daily interactions
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory
- Certificate IV in either health science, education, behavioural, social science or psychology field or related discipline.
- Professional Certificate in Player Development (or working towards)
- Experience supporting wellbeing or personal development in sporting, educational, or youth environments
- Understanding of AFL industry structures, AFLPA programs, and player development pathways (or willingness to learn)
- Current Working With Children Check and First Aid certification
Desirable
- Bachelors degree or above in either health science, education, behavioural, social science or psychology field or related discipline
- Experience working with athletes or in high performance environments
- Knowledge of transition planning and career development programs
