About This Opportunity

As a Data Scientist at the NBL, you’ll sit at the intersection of marketing, fan experience, and performance analytics. You’ll turn complex data into powerful insights that shape how fans engage with the League on game day, across digital platforms, and throughout every touchpoint in the NBL ecosystem.

Working closely with marketing, CRM, digital, and commercial teams, you’ll help drive smarter, more personalised, and more impactful decisions that elevate fan engagement, support commercial growth, and strengthen the League’s competitive edge.

What You’ll Do Advanced Analytics & Modelling

  • Build predictive models for churn, attendance, retention, ticketing, campaign conversion, and fan lifetime value
  • Analyse fan journeys across channels, including content engagement, purchase behaviour, and app usage
  • Develop segmentation, clustering, and propensity models to power personalised marketing in Braze
  • Connect game performance metrics with fan sentiment, digital behaviour, and commercial outcomes

Marketing & Campaign Intelligence

  • Support Marketing and CRM teams by designing analytics for Braze journeys, triggers, and audiences
  • Measure campaign performance, attribution, incrementality, and full lifecycle impact
  • Recommend audience strategies, segmentation, and timing optimisation using behavioural insights

Pipeline & Data Engineering Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to unify fan, performance, marketing, and game-day data
  • Collaborate with data engineers to produce clean, reliable, production-ready datasets
  • Integrate APIs across ticketing, Braze, app analytics, social media, and broadcast platforms
  • Automate workflows and contribute to enhancing the NBL’s data platform architecture

Data Products & Insights Delivery

  • Develop dashboards and analytical layers for marketing, commercial, and digital teams
  • Package predictive models into reusable scoring systems (e.g., propensity, engagement, next-best-action)
  • Translate technical outputs into meaningful, actionable insights for stakeholders across the League

Collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally with Digital, CRM, Commercial, Creative, and Game Day teams
  • Support analysts and marketers with datasets optimised for reporting, experimentation, and campaign activation
  • Partner with clubs, vendors, and data providers to improve data quality across the full NBL ecosystem

What We’re Looking For Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Experience building data pipelines using Cloud FunctionsDataformdbt, or similar tools
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (BigQuery preferred)
  • Familiarity with Braze or other major marketing automation platforms
  • Ability to work with behavioural, ticketing, CRM, and event-stream data
  • Experience in marketing/CRM analytics, segmentation, and attribution methodologies
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Analytical, detail-focused, and passionate about sport, fans, and digital transformation

Desirable

  • Experience in sports, entertainment, or media industries
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • Exposure to cloud-based analytics tools and customer data platforms
