The Director of Rugby (DoR) is responsible for shaping the rugby strategy of the club by overseeing all rugby-related activities, ensuring the development and delivery of a high-quality, inclusive, and competitive rugby program. The DoR plays a central role in building the club's playing and coaching capacity, driving player recruitment and retention, and fostering a strong and unified club culture.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Rugby Operations
- Develop and implement a clear rugby strategy and seasonal plan across all teams.
- Provide structure and leadership across Senior Men, Women, Colts, and Youth programs.
- Oversee training frameworks, ensuring sessions are consistent with club goals and values.
- Oversee Academy training frameworks, with key emphasis in individual player skill development as well as in Game awareness & understanding.
- Support transitions from junior to senior rugby and between age-grade teams (Colts to Grades).
2. Coach Recruitment & Development
- Identify and appoint coaches in consultation with the Rugby Committee.
- Provide support, feedback, and professional development opportunities for all coaches.
- Organise pre-season planning meetings and ongoing in-season reviews.
- Promote a positive and progressive coaching culture throughout the club.
3. Player Recruitment & Retention
- Lead targeted recruitment efforts across local schools, clubs, and wider networks.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, agents, academies, and representative bodies.
- Create a player engagement plan that supports long-term involvement and enjoyment.
- Oversee welcome and induction processes for new players.
- Identify and support emerging talent within the club.
4. High Performance & Development
- Assist in setting high performance standards and expectations across playing groups.
- Ensure access to skill development, conditioning, and injury management support where possible.
- Encourage leadership development among players.
- Promote opportunities for representative honours or progression to higher levels.
5. Culture & Club Engagement
- Promote and model club values and standards of behaviour.
- Foster a cohesive “one club” culture across all teams and age groups.
- Encourage volunteer involvement and support all rugby-related community initiatives.
- Act as a bridge between players, coaches, and the committee.
6. Strategic Planning & Reporting
- Develop a clear season plan and contribute to the club’s long-term vision.
- Regularly report to the Committee on performance, participation, and development.
- Contribute to planning for facilities, funding, and rugby-specific infrastructure.
- Assist in the drafting and review of club rugby policies.
7. Administration & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Rugby AU, State Union, and club regulations.
- Assist with player registration, match-day compliance, and safety protocols.
- Work with Team Managers to ensure smooth logistical planning.
