Description

Assistant Head Coach

Lead the next generation of competitive swimmers at Victoria’s home of high performance aquatics.

This role offers the opportunity to coach state level athletes, support national and junior squads, and help shape the pathway that takes our swimmers from development to high performance. You will work under one of Australia’s leading coaches within a revitalised and growing squad program, contributing to an environment where individuals are supported to progress and perform at their best.

About the role:

The Assistant Head Coach supports the delivery of the MSAC Squad Program, focusing on coaching athletes within the Target State and State level squads while providing support across National and Junior squads. Working closely with the Head Coach, Richard Sleight, and wider coaching team, you will deliver structured, high quality training that builds technical skill, competitive readiness and long term athlete progression. This role plays an important part in creating a positive, professional and athlete centred training environment that aligns with program goals and the broader pathway from Learn to Swim through to high performance.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high quality coaching to Development and State level athletes in line with program goals.
  • Supporting National and Junior squads as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Implementing structured training programs that support technical, physiological and competitive development.
  • Contributing to pathway progression, including bridging programs between MSAC Swim School and squads.
  • Attending designated competitions, training camps and events, providing athlete support and assisting with team administration.
  • Building strong relationships with athletes, parents and key partners including Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club, Swimming Victoria, Swimming Australia and the VIS.
  • Supporting program planning, competition calendars and athlete engagement initiatives.
  • Contributing to operational coordination, communication and program administration.

What You Bring to the Pool Deck:

  • Experience coaching within a competitive club or squad pathway.
  • Strong technical understanding of competitive swimming and athlete development.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with athletes, families, coaches and sport partners.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to support a high performing coaching team.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills with an ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Swimming Australia Advanced Coach accreditation (or working towards) plus First Aid, WWCC and relevant professional memberships.

Why You’ll Love It:

You will coach in one of Australia’s most versatile aquatic centres, contributing to a pathway that supports swimmers from development through to high performance. You will work closely with an experienced Head Coach, gain exposure to state and national level environments, and be part of a coaching team committed to growth, professionalism and athlete success. The role offers opportunities for ongoing development, involvement in major competitions and camps, and the chance to make a meaningful impact across a growing and revitalised squad program.
