Description

About State Sport Centres:

Are you ready to be a crucial part of the dynamic world of State Sport Centres? We are the heartbeat of premier multi-sport facilities in Victoria, dedicated to fostering peak performance, unlocking potential, and delivering world-class events. State Sport Centres are more than just facilities; we're the driving force behind sports enthusiasts reaching new heights. We exist to fuel passion, inspire excellence, and contribute to the well-being of the Victorian community. Join the team that transforms the sports landscape and creates a legacy of excitement, engagement, and inspiration.

About the Junior Squad Coach role

This role offers the chance to be part of one of Australia’s most complete aquatic pathways, with programs that span from infant lessons with the MSAC Swim School, right through to high performance training in partnership Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club and the Victorian Institute of Sport. All of this sits under one roof at MSAC, creating an environment where young swimmers can learn, grow, and progress within a connected and supportive community.

As a Junior Squad Coach, you will be a key contributor to this pathway. Your coaching will help lay the foundation for skills, confidence, and enjoyment in the early stages of competitive swimming. You will work closely with a passionate coaching team who are committed to nurturing athletes at every level and building a culture where swimmers feel encouraged, challenged, and inspired.

This position is ideal for those looking to take the next step into coaching, for developing coaches wanting exposure to a well-established and respected program, or for experienced coaches who want to stay involved in shaping the next generation without the pressure of a full-time coaching load. You will have the opportunity to influence young athletes at a pivotal stage in their journey while being part of a program that celebrates both community participation and high performance ambition.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging, technically strong coaching sessions for junior squad swimmers
  • Supporting athlete progression, engagement, and retention through a positive and structured pathway
  • Collaborating with the Head Coach and squad coaching team to maintain program consistency and high performance standards
  • Assisting with talent identification and facilitating smooth transitions from Learn to Swim into squad pathways
  • Upholding safety requirements and operational policies across all coaching activities
  • Representing State Sport Centres as a positive, professional role model for athletes and families

Who we're looking for:

We are seeking someone passionate about nurturing young athletes and contributing to a high-quality coaching environment. You will bring enthusiasm, sound technical knowledge, and a genuine interest in helping swimmers develop their skills and confidence. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building positive relationships with athletes and parents. This role suits individuals beginning their coaching journey, those seeking growth within a leading program, or former coaches wanting to re-engage with developing athletes in a balanced and rewarding capacity.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience coaching junior swimmers in a squad or competitive environment
  • Current Working with Children (Victoria) certificate
  • Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Swim Australia Foundation Coach

Desirable:

  • Swimming Australia Development/Advanced Coach
