ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the General Manager - Legal and Integrity, you will play a crucial role in helping SAPA to deliver high-quality governance and integrity services for several sporting and entertainment organisations. You will be a key contributor in making sure that tasks are given to schedule, objectives are met, and the expectations of our clients are exceeded.

ROLE OBJECTIVES:

  1. To manage the delivery of integrity services to SAPA’s clients, working across multiple sports to support the effective management of integrity issues, with a focus on safeguarding and member protection.
  2. To deliver high-quality integrity case management and complaint-handling services.
  3. To provide education, advice and training to clients and their stakeholders on integrity matters.
  4. To support the development, implementation and review of integrity-related rules, policies and frameworks.
  5. To work with the wider legal and integrity team to ensure effective and efficient delivery, including providing oversight for two lawyers who provide support on complaint handling and investigation.
  6. To enhance the brand awareness of SAPA within the Australian sporting sector through networking and business development.
  7. To identify new integrity business opportunities for SAPA.
  8. To enhance SAPA’s internal processes and systems regarding integrity to facilitate efficiency and best practice service delivery.
  9. To uphold and promote SAPA’s vision, values, and strategic objectives.
  10. To foster meaningful relationships with SAPA clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Specifically, your role will primarily include:

Complaint and Report Management

  • Manage or coordinate integrity or misconduct complaints in accordance with client policies and procedures.
  • Undertake or oversee triage, preliminary assessment, investigation, resolution and reporting as required.
  • Liaise (on our client’s behalf) with Sport Integrity Australia, National Sports Tribunal and other external bodies on referred matters.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and contribute to the development of best-practice case management systems.
  • Provide guidance to client staff, volunteers and board members on procedural fairness, confidentiality and appropriate process.
  • Present and/or provide evidence to relevant disciplinary panels in relation to complaints investigated by SAPA.

Policy and Rule Development

  • Draft and review integrity-related policies, codes, rules and disciplinary regulations for clients.
  • Ensure alignment with the National Integrity Framework, applicable legislation and sport-specific needs.
  • Review key integrity documents and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support implementation of new frameworks, systems and workflows within client organisations.

Education and Capacity Building

  • Develop and deliver presentations, workshops and guidance materials on integrity topics such as member protection, child safeguarding, anti-doping, and competition manipulation.
  • Support clients to embed integrity awareness and prevention initiatives within their communities.
  • Stay informed of developments in integrity practice, policy and education to inform client services.

Advisory and Stakeholder Support

  • Provide timely and pragmatic advice to SAPA clients on integrity-related matters and policy interpretation (in collaboration with SAPA lawyers as required).
  • Build trusted working relationships with client staff, boards and volunteers, as well as key external partners.
  • Support the General Manager - Legal and Integrity in client management and reporting.

Internal Collaboration

  • Contribute to SAPA’s internal knowledge-sharing, templates and systems to ensure consistency and best practice.
  • Assist with the development of integrity resources and training across SAPA’s Legal and Integrity team.
  • Support business development opportunities and proposals in the integrity service area.

Networking & Business Development:

  • Ensuring retention of SAPA’s existing integrity clients.
  • Actively build brand awareness for SAPA by cultivating key relationships within the Australian sporting sector by attending conferences, events and similar networking opportunities.
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities to increase the scope and volume of engagements with existing clients, or securing engagements with new clients.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Day-to-day handling of integrity client engagements, including attending client meetings and providing regular client reports to maximise client engagement and retention.
  • Ensuring regular communication with key stakeholders.
  • Implementing relevant integrity or organisational actions in SAPA’s operational plan.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, sport management, governance, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complaints, investigations or integrity matters in sport under the National Integrity Framework.
  • Experience within or advising to National Sporting Organisations, State Sporting Organisations or clubs.
  • Strong written communication skills, including drafting reports, policies and correspondence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and empathy.
  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Demonstrated understanding of procedural fairness, confidentiality and integrity in sport.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain) and National Police Check.

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering education or training in integrity, governance or related topics.
  • Experience with anti-doping and competition manipulation areas of sporting integrity.
  • Experience or training as a mediator.
