Description

Base Fee: $10,000 (AUD) per annum, paid monthly

Travel: All flights, accommodation, transport and meals will be arranged and covered by Softball Australia when travelling with the national teams.

Contract term: This is a fixed-term, two year appointment with the potential to extend through the full 2029 World Cup Cycle, subject to performance

Reports to: General Manager Game Development (GMGD)

Location: Flexible/remote role - Head Office located in Albert Park, Melbourne

We’re now looking for a National Head Coach – Steelers to lead Australia’s men’s softball program and drive the team’s pursuit to regain the World Cup title. You’ll bring expertise in high-performance coaching, athlete development, and team culture to help our elite athletes excel on the world stage.

The Role (What You’ll Be Doing):

Softball Australia is seeking a National Head Coach - Steelers to lead the Australian Open Men’s Softball Team in its pursuit to regain the WBSC World Cup title. This role is responsible for designing and delivering the high-performance program, guiding athlete preparation, and building a world-class team culture that supports sustained international success.

You’ll play a central role in leading the team’s strategic and on-field performance, working closely with the General Manager Game Development, assistant coaches, specialist staff and the wider high-performance network. You’ll also collaborate with Member States, the National Institute Network (NIN) and other national coaches to ensure a unified, athlete-focused pathway from development through to elite international competition.

What You'll Bring to the Role

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Softball Australia Level 3 Coaching Accreditation (or international equivalent)
  • Proven record of ongoing professional development in coaching and athlete performance
  • Current Working with Children Check (or equivalent) and completion of required integrity training modules
  • Current Safeguarding Children Certification

Experience:

  • Demonstrated success coaching at national or international level, ideally within elite men’s softball or comparable high-performance sport
  • Expertise in tactical game planning, team management and high-performance program delivery
  • Experience in developing and implementing individual athlete development plans and performance monitoring systems
  • Strong understanding of sports science principles, athlete data analytics and injury prevention
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams of coaches and support staff
  • Experience in managing budgets, resources and operational logistics within a performance environment
