About the Role

Reporting to the Head of AFLW & Head of Player Development & Wellbeing, this role is accountable for assisting in the execution of GFC’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. This pivotal role within our AFLW program will work to help establish an evidence-based, best-practice optimal psychology, mental health, and wellbeing environment that enables players to thrive.

The role will will receive support and guidance from the Club Psychologist whilst also having a close working relationship with the AFLW Player Development Manager, Medical, Fitness & Coaching team across the AFLW program. This role will be contracted at 0.4 days.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with the club Psychologist to assist with implementation, monitoring, and evolution of GFC’s Mental Health Strategy
  • Work with the AFLW PDM to establish and oversee and implement a Dual-Career Development framework that is focussed on enhancing wellbeing outcomes for GFC listed players 
  • Deliver regular Mental Health Literacy Education sessions for AFLW playing group and establishment of psychological program offerings that relate to staff wellbeing
  • Assist Club Psychologist in education and case management support of our non-football department staff by building a strategy of how to best use our EAP
  • To work towards ensuring that GFC can maintain a competitive advantage in the mental health and performance space by utilising a provisional psychology workforce where appropriate
  • Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with players, coaches and staff that are based around the principle of confidentiality.
  • In conjunction with the AFLW PDM, identify risks within the environment that may impact player and staff mental health and wellbeing
  • Provide high-quality individual and group-based psychology support (both performance based and mental health support)
  • Develop and maintain individualised psychology and wellbeing plans for AFLW players

What you can bring

  • Understanding of workplace mental health policies
  • Ability to deliver psychological support at an individual and group level
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
  • Able to work to strategically identify solutions to improving program and service provision
  • Relevant qualifications associated with a qualified psychologist. Endorsement in Sport Psychology highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional practice in psychology. Demonstrated experience working as an embedded psychologist will be highly sought after
  • Experience and understanding of High-Performance sport environments are highly desirable.
