At Melbourne, we’re proud. Proud of our rich history, proud of our values, with Trust, Respect, Unity, and Excellence at our core. Proud of our people, who live these values each and every day. Proud of our passion, our colours and our spiritual home. We’re proud to belong.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're seeking a dynamic and highly motivated AFL Assistant Coach to join our AFL Men’s Program for the 2026 Season. This is a maximum term contract, full-time position, commencing in November of 2025.

As an Assistant Coach, this role is responsible for supporting the Senior Coach in designing and delivering high-impact training programs focused on enhancing individual player development, strengthening team cohesion, and executing game strategies that drive on-field success.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting directly to the Senior Coach, the key areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Senior Coach in developing and implementing the AFL Football program, including game plans, training sessions, and match strategies.
  • Conduct individual and team skill development sessions and provide feedback to players on their performance.
  • Assist in game day preparation and support the Senior Coach during matches.
  • Contribute to the development of team culture, values, and standards.
  • Collaborate with other coaches, support staff, and players to create a positive and high-performance environment.
  • Analyse and review game footage to provide feedback to players and coaches in review and preview sessions for their allocated Line.
  • Provide input into player recruitment and talent identification.
  • Actively participate in coach education and development opportunities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are someone who possesses strong coaching fundamentals, with exceptional communication and leadership skills, and has a deep understanding of player development, game plan strategy and team culture. You bring previous coaching experience at the AFL, VFL, or equivalent elite level, along with the ability to translate strategy into action through high-quality training, feedback, and match-day leadership.

You excel at building strong relationships and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Your interpersonal skills enable you to engage effectively with players, staff, and stakeholders, fostering trust and alignment across the football program.

Above all, you embody professionalism, resilience, and a team-first mindset, aligning with the club’s values and contributing positively to its high-performance culture.

You currently hold an active AFL Silver Coaching Accreditation (previously known as Level 2).

PERKS & BENEFITS

This position presents the opportunity to work in our newly developed high-performance facility at Casey Fields, as well as AAMI Park, within the Melbourne & Olympic Park Sporting Precinct.

We provide a welcoming, safe, and flexible approach to work and provide an environment that benefits from and enables the best from everyone. Our people thrive within a club that is committed to a standard of excellence and supported by a culture of wellbeing and balance.
