Description

Artistic Swimming Australia (ASA) is the high-performance leader for artistic swimming in Australia, dedicated to developing world-class athletes and preparing them for success on the global stage. Home to the Hancock Prospecting Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Perth, WA, ASA provides a unique training environment where elite athletes balance sporting excellence with academic aspirations.

We are seeking an Assistant Coach - Team Australia to join our high performance coaching team and play a critical role in supporting our national squad as they prepare for benchmark events including the World Championships and Olympic Games.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position based in Perth, Western Australia, reporting to the National Head Coach and General Manager – Performance and Pathways. You'll work directly with our senior squad athletes, contribute to a high-performance coaching environment, and help shape a positive and progressive team culture in alignment with ASA’s What It Takes to Win (WITTW) framework and Sport Australia’s Win Well strategy.

Key Responsibilities

High Performance Coaching

  • Assist in the design and delivery of long-term training plans that support athlete development and contribute to ASA's international performance targets.
  • Implement daily training programs under the guidance of the Head Coach.
  • Monitor athlete health, well-being, and readiness to train and compete, aligned with ASA’s Health & Wellbeing framework.
  • Integrate Sports Science and Sports Medicine (SSSM) support services to optimise training, recovery, and performance outcomes.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and feedback in both technical and artistic components of routines.
  • Travel with the National Team to all relevant domestic and international competitions, camps, and events.
  • Support Head Coach in selection processes, trial reviews, and Individual Athlete Performance Plans (IAPPs).
  • Prepare, review, and manage Coach Cards for competition; maintain a high level of familiarity with current World Aquatics Artistic Swimming rules and Difficulty Guidelines.
  • Contribute to video review and feedback, technical analysis, and innovation in routine design.
  • Support ASA Development Programs if required in collaboration with the Head Coach.
  • Contribute to athlete progress reporting, performance reviews, and strategic planning updates.
  • Provide timely, specific feedback to athletes in line with ASA’s athlete development plans and values.
  • Maintain open, consistent communication with the National Head Coach, broader High Performance Support Team, and High Performance Program Management
  • Engage collaboratively with internal stakeholders is required (e.g., Coaching Committee, Pathways staff, HP Advisory group) to support holistic athlete development and program alignment.

It is important that the following can be shown or provided;

  • a suitable Artistic Swimming Advanced Coach Accreditation or international equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an elite athlete coaching position or equivalent relevant experience;
  • a satisfactory Working With Children Check (WWCC) and police/criminal record check.
  • an understanding of the Artistic Swimming Australia Anti-Doping Policy and the Artistic Swimming Australia Safe Sport Framework and ensure the High Performance Squad program operations are conducted in accordance with that policy and that framework;
  • a demonstrated ability to design and deliver individualised training programs within a High Performance environment, underpinned by a coach-led, athlete-centred, and expert-supported philosophy;
  • strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams, including performance support staff, build stakeholder relationships, and contribute to a connected and engaged team culture;
  • a proficiency in using digital tools for training planning, communication, and data analysis, with the ability to evaluate performance platforms and contribute to continuous improvement across the program.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience coaching Artistic Swimming at an international level.
  • Strong knowledge of Artistic Swimming competition rules, scoring systems, Difficulty Guidelines, and Coach Card management.
  • Proven ability to operate within a High Performance daily training environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently and adaptively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team and under the leadership of the National Head Coach
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and committed to athlete-centred coaching practices.
  • Flexibility to travel and work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required by the training and competition schedule.
