Mentoring Young People and Building the Future of Cricket at the Preston Druids Cricket Club in its 100th season.

These volunteer roles of Cricket Coaches for our u10 and u14 year olds carries the responsibility and unique opportunity to shape the foundational cricketing experiences of young people. These coaches are expected to create a positive, safe, and inspiring environment that encourages children to develop their skills, embrace teamwork, and cultivate a love for the game that motivates them to continue up the cricket age group pathway. These positions require good communication skills, a passion for youth development, and a knowledge of cricket, alongside the ability to adapt coaching to suit various abilities and personalities.

Key Duties

  • Planning and delivering weekly training session appropriate for the under 10 or 14 age group, with a focus on skill development and enjoyment.
  • Evaluating player progress and providing individual feedback.
  • Organising and supervising matches, setting up equipment and providing tactical guidance.
  • Building positive relationships with parents and guardians.
  • Encouraging respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the spirit of the game.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Ensuring compliance with club policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Safeguarding: Understanding of child safeguarding policies and willingness to undergo background checks or working with children clearances.
  • Coaching Certification: Minimin Introduction to Coaching online via Cricket Australia, with Community  Coaching Course favourably regarded.
  • Experience: Previous experience coaching or working with children in a sporting environment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Cricket: Solid understanding of cricket techniques, rules, and strategies, with the ability to communicate these in a clear and engaging manner to young players.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport with children, parents, and other stakeholders, using positive language and encouragement.
  • Organisation and Leadership: Capable of managing groups of children, coordinating sessions, and maintaining discipline in a positive way.
  • First Aid: Basic first aid certification or willingness to undertake training.
  • Patience and Enthusiasm: Genuine interest in youth development and the patience required to guide young people through learning and improvement processes.
