We are seeking a candidate for the position of Regional Coaching Director (RCD) to join the highly innovative team to promote, develop and grow all aspects of hockey within the Cairns Region by creating strong relationships with members, clubs and other stakeholders, and to provide pathways for players, caoches and officials.

Cairns Hockey Association is a regional hockey association delivering hockey across the region for over 95 years. With 4 clubs and over 900 members playing all formats of the game, Cairns Hockey is responsible for the advancement and management of hockey across the region. It has 2 artificial pitches, 3 grass fields and 1 modified field, it has a new $800,000 turf improvement to qualify for national and international competition and events, strong performance and development programs and an internationally recognised Aspire to be Deadly indigenous inclusive hockey program.

ROLE OVERVIEW
- To increase the numbers of players involved in hockey in the Cairns region through various programs and initiatives for both Outdoor and Indoor hockey.
- Plan and lead the implementation of specific programs such as Hookin2Hockey, Sporting Schools and various other programs the association offers (academies, junior social sixes, holiday clinics, umpire clinics, coaching clinics) with the key focus on recruitment and retention.
- Planning to include hands on activities, monitoring and reporting performance, making the necessary adjustments to deliver agreed outcomes to ensure players are engaged in hockey through a positive and safe experience at all levels from development to high performance within the association.
- To develop and support coaches and officials within the association at club and representative level to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively coach and officiate at all levels with the focus on player retention.
- Increasing the number of coaches and officials, along with accredited coaches and officials in the region in accordance to the HQ and HA framework.
- Manage and deliver the outdoor and indoor Representative program including trials, selectors selection, coach and official recruitment and selection, upskilling and supporting coaches and officials during representative preparations.
- Regularly assess and update policies and procedures regarding all pathway programs by working with relevant volunteer groups within the assoication.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Excellent written and verbal communications.
- High level of computer literate – Microsoft Office and publishing applications.
- Ability to positively influence events without receiving direct instructions whilst remaining in the limits of defined accountabilities.
- Ability to organise and prioritise a course of action for self and to accomplish goals.
- Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media.
- Ensuring stakeholders and clients are always properly serviced.
- Ability to prioritise and make carefully weighted decisions and take actions based on the information available, taking situational constraints into account.
- Ability to recognise a problem, identify possible causes, generate alternative solutions, and select the most appropriate course of action considering all factors.
- Great attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER
- Hockey Australia Development Lead Coach (Level 2) or FIH Level 2 Coaching Accreditation.
- Strong experience in managing and growing the sport of hockey.
- Experience in communicating with all levels of an organisation.
- Experience in program management.
- Knowledge of hockey coaching methods and the ability to disseminate that information.
- Demonstrated experience working with volunteers in a sporting environment.
- The ability to workoutside normal office hours, including weekends.
DESIRABLE:
- Tertiary qualification in Sports Management/Human Movement or Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning qualifications.
- Hockey Australia Advanced Coach (Level 3) or FIH Level 3 Coaching Accreditation.
