Job Description
Griffith Sports College plays a vital role in fostering students who are also elite athletes, helping them devote time to training and competition while they complete their tertiary studies. As part of the Elite Athlete Education Network, the Sports College integrates sporting and academic aspirations.
Based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus and the Griffith Swimming Hub at Southport, the position is responsible for supporting the high-performance Griffith Swimming squad and in particular working closely with Swimming Australia in developing and implementing a high-performance coaching program. This position will focus on promoting a high-performance positive team culture, assuring those associated with the programme flourish both as performance athletes and human beings.
This position will work in together with the other Griffith Swimming programs within the Griffith swimming club. Collaborating with the coaches to improve the development of all programs, of athletes and enhancing pathways into each of the squads within the club.
As Assistant Coach - Swimming, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- Assist in the planning and execution of daily training sessions, developing individualised athlete training plans, and contributing technical expertise across specialist training areas.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure a coach-led, athlete-centred approach that integrates performance science, periodisation planning, and digital tools to support athlete development.
- Assist with the coordination of training schedules, camps, competitions, and performance meetings while using digital platforms for effective communication and data management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners including Griffith University, Swimming Australia, and QAS to foster a connected high-performance environment.
- Role model high-performance behaviours and support a welcoming and growth-oriented culture, championing the values of Swimming Australia and contributing to team cohesion and innovation.
- Engage in ongoing learning, contribute to the program’s technical and cultural growth, and align with the Head Coach’s vision to support national performance objectives and Olympic cycle planning.
About you

You will also have:
- A Swimming Australia Advanced Coach Accreditation or international equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an elite athlete coaching position or equivalent relevant experience.
- A satisfactory working with children check and police/criminal record check.
- An understanding of the Swimming Australia Anti-Doping Policy and the Swimming Australia Safe Sport Framework and ensure the High-Performance Squad program operations are conducted in accordance with that policy and that framework.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver individualised training programs within a high-performance environment, underpinned by a coach-led, athlete-centred, and expert-supported philosophy.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams (including performance support staff, Swimming Australia, and QAS), build stakeholder relationships, and contribute to a connected and engaged team culture.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for training planning, communication, and data analysis, with the ability to evaluate performance platforms and contribute to continuous improvement across the program.
What we can offer
This is a fixed term (until 31 December 2028), full time position primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.
Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
