The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys enjoy the largest geographical footprint in the National Rugby League. We are proud to be a cornerstone of the North Queensland community and a major part of the economy for over 30 years.

We are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Elite Development & Academy Coach (FNQ) to lead the coaching and physical development of young male athletes in the Far North Queensland region.

About the Role

This rare, permanent ongoing role will be based in Cairns at Northern Pride HQ. This role is integral to the Cowboys’ Elite Pathways Program. You will be responsible for nurturing young talent across FNQ and preparing players for the rigours of professional rugby league. Working collaboratively with recruitment, coaching, and performance staff, your goal is to help players transition seamlessly into the NRL environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver weekly programs to contracted Elite Emerging players (U15–U18)
  • Oversee FNQ Cowboys Greenhorns Academy (U15/U16)
  • Liaise with schools, clubs, and community stakeholders across the FNQ region
  • Travel to remote FNQ towns and to Cowboys HQ in Townsville
  • Support recruitment and regional coach development programs

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Relevant coaching or high-performance qualifications (NRL/QRL accreditation eligibility essential)
  • 5+ years’ experience in pathways development or high-level junior coaching
  • Strong knowledge of FNQ junior and school rugby league environments
  • Excellent communication and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently and build strong community relationships
  • A strong commitment to Cowboys values and player development

Hours of Work

This is a full-time role and includes weekend, evening, and travel commitments aligned with the rugby league season.
