The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys enjoy the largest geographical footprint in the National Rugby League. We are proud to be a cornerstone of the North Queensland community and a major part of the economy for over 30 years.

We seek a passionate and experienced Elite Development & Academy Coach (Capricornia) to play a key role in identifying, developing, and supporting emerging rugby league talent across the Capricornia region.

About the Role

This rare, permanent ongoing role will be based in Mackay at BB Print Stadium. This role is responsible for the delivery of coaching and physical development programs for young male athletes in the Cowboys Elite Pathways and Academy programs. The successful candidate will work closely with local and regional stakeholders to create a clear pathway for players to reach the NRL level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver training and development programs for Cowboys contracted Elite Emerging players (U15–U18)
  • Deliver the Cowboys Greenhorns Academy program in Capricornia (U15/U16)
  • Establish and maintain strong connections with schools, clubs, and regional coaches
  • Travel monthly to remote locations and to Townsville for alignment with Cowboys HQ
  • Assist in regional recruitment, coach development, and strategic player development

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Coaching and/or high-performance qualifications (NRL/QRL accreditation eligibility essential)
  • 5+ years of experience in junior development or pathway programs
  • Experience in school and club rugby league environments
  • Strong organisational, communication and planning skills
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative mindset and ability to work remotely
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development and the values of the Cowboys

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Due to the nature of the role, regular weekend, evening, and travel commitments are required during the season.
