Australian Sailing is seeking an experienced coach to support the development of South Australian athletes within the High-Performance Pathways program. Based in Adelaide, this part-time role offers a unique opportunity to deliver a high-performance training environment, supporting the development of nationally categorised athletes and contribute to their progression in Olympic sailing. Ideal candidates will have strong technical sailing knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for youth and performance sailing.Reporting to the Australian Sailing (AS) High Performance (HP) Pathways Manger, the Performance Pathways Coach will be responsible for delivery and support of on-water coaching for the South Australian (SA) State Sailing Performance Programs (SSPP). This is a part-time position (0.5 FTE) based at the Australian Sailing SA Office. The Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club (BSYC) will serve as the primary training base for the SA SSPP.

This role involves working closely with AS’s HP program and Performance Pathways staff through to AS’s Community/Club Services staff to ensure alignment and integration across all stages of the athlete pathway. Some after hours and weekend work, as well as regional and interstate travel will be required.

Principle Accountabilities

In alignment with the NSW SSPP program objectives, primary responsibilities of the State Performance Pathways Lead include (but are not limited to):

In alignment with the SA Sailing program objectives, the primary responsibilities of the Performance Pathways Coach (SA) include:

  • Providing on water coaching for SA identified/categorised athletes in the local training environment, scheduled training camps and at major state and national regattas.
  • Driving and monitoring the development of Pre-Emerging sailors via talent ID and direct coaching at association/AS Youth events and Sail Our Way coaching and other initiatives e.g. Green & Gold, Youfor2032, etc.
  • Attending and actively participating in identified sailing initiatives across the state to aid coach development with the underpinning club and association networks.
  • Creating and actioning an annual plan of engagement including regattas and camps (to be agreed with the AS HP Pathways Manager).
  • Ensuring any categorised athletes in SA have Individual Development Plans/Campaign Plans and are receiving the support they require to enable them to optimise their rate of development and liaise with the AS HP Pathways Manager to ensure they get opportunities to engage with other State Institutes/Academies of Sport (SIS/SAS) or National/Future Squad environments.
  • In conjunction with the SA performance support staff, contribute to individual development planning and monitoring process for athletes in SA.
  • Working with relevant AS staff to produce and action your own development planning that may involve a range of stakeholders, within SA and across the National Institute Network (NIN).
  • Undertaking administrative responsibilities, including season, session and regatta planning and review processes, as well as regular progress meetings.
  • Managing contracted coaches within SA, as agreed with the AS HP Pathways Manager.
  • Undertaking required logistics for the team at camps and events around your own coaching needs.
  • Maintaining any allocated equipment (i.e. coach boat, trailer, etc.) and remain accountable for its upkeep and servicing.
  • Reading, understanding and adhering to the relevant AS policies and processes while operating within the environments and reporting any breaches to the relevant bodies.
  • Participating in regular AS Performance Pathway Team meetings via video conference and/or in person, where required.
  • Demonstrating collaborative behaviours, professional standards and effective communication.
  • Engaging with local pathways class associations/clubs and seek to build performance culture and regular training ethos.
  • Adhering to the AS’s R.I.T.E. (Respect, Integrity, Teamwork & Excellence) values and behaviours.
