Australian Athletics (AA) is the governing body for Athletics in this country. It is a National Sporting Organisation whose major partner is the Australian Sports Commission. AA is responsible for athletics, including high performance, participation, coaching, officiating, juniors, para-athletics, domestic and international competition. Australian Athletics has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging participation in athletics in Australia and promoting excellence in performance.
Australian Athletics is on the lookout for a passionate leader to step into a Part-time (0.6 FTE) 9-month parental leave cover as the National Athletics for the Outback Manager. This is a rare opportunity to drive meaningful impact in regional and remote communities - all through the power of sport.
About the Role:
The purpose of the National Athletics for the Outback Manager role is to provide meaningful, inclusive, and impactful athletics participation opportunities for the National Athletics for the Outback Program. This includes using the power of sport to positively impact communities, through increased access to athletics, provision of education opportunities for, and supporting opportunities to improve social connection, physical health and mental wellbeing in the location in which the program is delivered.
Your core duties will include:
- Lead the development, tailoring, and refinement of initiatives and activities for the delivery of athletics in regional, and remote settings, including with First Nations people.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of Athletics for the Outback (AFTO) programs across the country, ensuring all deliverables are met in alignment with partner expectations and organisational goals.
- Work with local communities and our major partner, Rio Tinto to ensure effective program delivery.
- Track AFTO deliverables, including participation numbers against program objectives and key program performance measures.
What we are looking for:
We’re looking for an organised, proactive administrator and project manager with a passion for community-driven work and experience in the delivery of sports program to engage communities. You’ll have experience supporting the delivery of programs that create real impact - especially in diverse or regional settings - and the ability to confidently coordinate multiple moving parts across a broad stakeholder group.
You’re someone who can juggle logistics, build strong relationships, and keep things running smoothly - from planning and reporting to supporting delivery in the field. Experience working alongside First Nations communities, or in culturally diverse contexts, will be highly valued.
Ideally you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in education, sport management, project management or other related fields.
- Previous experience developing and managing community focused participation programs.
- Exceptional project management, coordination, and planning skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- A demonstrated understanding of contemporary, best practice approaches to engaging First Nations communities in sport.
- A keen commitment to clean sport and abiding by AA’s National Integrity Framework suite of policies including the Australian National Anti-doping Policy, Safeguarding Children and Young Persons Policy, and Code of Conduct.
- Hold and maintain a valid Working with Children Check and (or ability to hold) Police Check.
