Description

The Elite Athlete Driver is a key member of the Sport Services Department within Events Management Queensland (EMQ). EMQ manages and organises world-class mass participation sporting events designed to generate tourism and maximise significant economic impact on the community.  

The Elite Athlete Driver’s main role is to assist the delivery of the elite athlete program via airport transfers for both domestic and international elite runners, doing shuttle runs to and from various other race functions and shuttle runs on both race days servicing the elite runners and VIPs. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect vehicle from rental location at commencement of hire period and bring it back in the end 
- Welcome athletes/guests on arrival to Gold Coast/Brisbane (domestic and international arrivals) 
- Pick up elite athletes from Gold Coast- and Brisbane Airport (all times of the day!) and drop them off at their accommodation (e.g. Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise) 
- Provide shuttle service from the accommodation venues to the Elite Media Conference and Race Precinct 
- Make sure all elite athletes arrive for their respective events on time 
- Drive in a safe and legal manner at all times 
- Provide a welcoming and courteous environment for guests. 
- Keep vehicle clean, stocked with water 
- Refuel vehicle as needed 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Essential
- Excellent communication skills 
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player 
- Ability to maintain high work standard under pressure 
- High attention to detail  
- Must be a minimum of 25 years of age  
- Current Driver’s License (a copy of this will be required for the role) 
- Availability from Wednesday, 2 July to Monday, 7 July 2025. Due to the nature of the event, including early race start times and varied athlete arrival and departure times, volunteers may be rostered at any time between early morning and late evening. While full availability is essential, you will not be required to work continuously throughout the day. Shifts will be scheduled with appropriate rest periods to manage workload and prevent fatigue, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all volunteers.

- Represent EMQ in a professional and positive manner
- Interact with stakeholders, including sponsors, supporters, customers, staff and other team members with respect and courtesy 
- Follow EMQ policies and procedures including office protocols and appropriate channels of communication 
- Operate with honesty and integrity, maintaining confidentiality and using discretion with our customer’s personal information 
- Keep an open dialogue with your Supervisor/Volunteer Coordinator with regards to any issues, challenges or problems that may impact your performance and experience at EMQ
