The Head of Boys Basketball and Head of Girls Basketball positions are critical positions within NWB with responsibility for the expansion and improvement of coach education and player development programs to meet NWB’s increasing requirements focussed in the Domestic Basketball and Representative Basketball areas of the association. Working across multiple venues and levels of competition, the Head of Basketball roles will support NWB in the development and retention of athletes and coaches within the association for the service of all basketball competitions. The positions will also assist with the development and delivery of pathways programs for players and coaches as outlined in the NWB Strategic Plan. The successful applicants will be expected to work flexible hours and perform some evening and weekend work.
Selection Criteria
Essential
Strong background in coach and player development and education and the ability to comprehend and interpret contemporary coaching practices including Basketball Australia and Basketball Queensland styles of play;
Ability to design, implements, and manage structured development programs that align with organizational objectives and player/coach pathways;
Capacity to lead and motivate coaches and athletes towards achieving individual and team goals;
Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be client focused and to communicate and negotiate with a broad range of people from all levels, in order to build relationships with our stakeholders;
The ability to carry out administrative duties co-operatively and contribute as a team member;
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, work independently and to use initiative and problem-solving skills in order to organise and prioritise workloads and to meet deadlines;
Willingness to work outside normal business hours - this role involves night and weekend work;
Proven skills and knowledge in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint),
A high standard of personal appearance and conduct;
Demonstrated ability to use discretion with confidential and sensitive information;
Hold and maintain a positive notice for working with children (Blue Card);
Have a current driver’s license and motor vehicle available for work purposes;
Accredited Association (Level 2) Coach
Be legally entitled to work in Australia
Desirable
A sound understanding of the structure of basketball in Queensland
At least two years’ experience in a similar role
Other Information:
NWB is required to meet the demands of a sport which operates seven days per week, with the timing of certain activities being critical to its success. NWB staff will, as the circumstances of the activities determine, contribute their time and efforts outside normally recognised office hours where their personal attention, knowledge or expertise may benefit NWB, its objectives and achievements.
As a member of staff, you will, on occasions, be required to travel in order to attend functions as a representative of NWB. Your conduct and appearance should reflect your role of an ambassador and your activities should set an example to other employees.
