Liaison With: Swim School Coordinators, Swim Instructors, Teacher Assistants, Customer Service Staff
Location: Engine Swim Aquatic, overseeing four aquatic facilities

Primary Role

The Child Safety, Risk & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and communication of policies, procedures, and risk management strategies to mitigate risks across all Engine Swim Aquatic facilities. This role ensures compliance with internal policies, external legislation, and guidelines to foster a positive culture of safety and risk management.

Objective

The objective of the role is to promote a robust risk management and safety culture across all four aquatic facilities, while providing administrative and operational support to Swim School Coordinators. This includes ensuring the effective identification, reporting, and compliance with internal policies and external legislation, guidelines, and relevant requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with the Victorian Child Safety Standards, including staying updated on legislative requirements, coordinating with all facilities, developing action plans, and monitoring progress.
  • Maintain and manage compliance systems across all four swimming sites.
  • Develop, implement, and review Risk Assessments relevant to facility operations, ensuring they are consistently applied.
  • Ensure compliance with Council Regulations and the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations.
  • Oversee compliance with external Safety Audits, including audits conducted by external companies or Life Saving Victoria.
  • Develop, implement, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each aquatic facility. Monitor adherence to these procedures.
  • Regularly review and update all Engine Swim Aquatic policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with staff Working with Children Checks (WWCC), aquatic accreditations, and health and fitness requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of safety equipment, including regular inspections, replacements, and investments where needed.

Support

  • Assist with the implementation and delivery of Work Health and Safety (WHS) training for staff.
  • Promote continuous improvement of the WHS and learning culture across all facilities.
  • Assist with document control, review, and maintenance of WHS management systems, including procedures, tools, plans, and checklists.
  • Support HR compliance, including recruitment inductions, training (e.g. manual handling, risk management, child safeguarding, WHS), and ongoing staff development.
  • Provide assistance in complaints management and reporting processes.

Other Duties

  • Assist with general duties or projects as directed by the Engine Swim Directors.
  • Prepare reports and provide advice to the Directors and Schools, as required.

Essential Qualifications

  • Formal qualification in Risk Management, Health and Safety, Pool Operations (e.g., Certificate IV, Diploma), or relevant experience.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).

Desired Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably in an aquatic or recreational environment.
  • Strong understanding of Child Safe Standards and associated legislative requirements.
  • Knowledge of the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • HSC/VCE equivalent
  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
