Do you have a passion for coaching and a drive to develop basketball talent in Victoria? Basketball Victoria is seeking a dedicated State Development Coach - Country, In this role you will need to provide leadership, knowledge and support to affiliate members of BV throughout the State of Victoria. The incumbents work under the guidance and mentorship of the four Head Coach roles to run the State’s program as a whole. They co-create individual development programs for our elite players and coaches with due consideration given to the technical, tactical, psychological and physical aspects of the athlete.
The State Development Coach Country deliver the coaching of the State Development Program and the Futures Development Program portfolio for identified Victorian athletes and coaches to successfully start the pathway for national and international level, maintaining the priority to develop future Victorian Olympians, Paralympians and World Championship participants. The roles require regular travel around Victoria and on occasion interstate and overnight stays. The hours will need to be flexible to meet the requirements of the role.

Essential Responsibilities
Athlete Assistance and Support
- Under the guidance and direction of the Head Coaches, oversee the State Development Program (SDP) and the Futures Development Program (FDP) at five (5) identified hubs throughout Victoria for the Country role and at six (6) identified hubs throughout Victoria for the Metropolitan role
- Identify talent, lead and provide assistance and support to identified athletes, coaches and affiliated BV member associations.
- Summarise all Development, Elite and High-Performance programs with analysis of final results and make recommendations for future improvement
- With the Head Coaches, manage, maintain and continuously improve the Victorian Style of Play document and ensure its currency, awareness and implementation throughout the Victorian Basketball community
- Provide the best practice Daily Training Environment (DTE) for our identified athletes for fulfilment of their individual sporting potential
- Provide better skilled and experienced Victorian athletes and coaches, for improved performances of Victorian representatives on national and international arenas and pathways
- Ensure that all identified athletes are training under adequate and safe conditions and are monitored by their allocated coaches as specified
- Ensure that all identified athletes are being best communicated with to ensure best outcomes on their pathway journey; hosting information sessions at the commencement of the programs and providing accurate program information to answer enquiries as required
- Ensure, through the Head Coaches, that there is monitoring and evaluation of each identified athlete's competitive and training program
- Develop and maintain relations with key stakeholders to advance the aspirations of our Victorian athletes and coaches
Program Management
- Monitor and liaise with each Head Coaches and conduct evaluations of the performance of any participating network coaches
- Oversee all medical and recovery needs arrangements for training and competitive events
- Head Coach at the Phase One and Phase Two SDP/FDP Selection Camps and manage various BV development camps as required
- In collaboration with the respective Performance Administrator; coordinate court bookings, coach appointments and athlete liaison for the best program delivery
- Head Coach at Introductory Camps and All-State Camps for the SDP
- Head Coach at the Southern Cross Challenge, appointing and mentoring coaching staff for respective Victorian representative teams
- Head Coach at the respective Jamboree tournaments – overseeing coach and athlete selections and appointments, coach and athlete development and mentoring
- Head Coach at the respective Country Metro Challenge tournament – overseeing respective coach and athlete selections and appointments, coach and athlete development and mentoring

Desirable
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in supervising staff and managing a high-performing team
- Extensive coaching experience at an elite level
- A tertiary qualification in a sports field or a related discipline
Essential
- Demonstrated technical and tactical Basketball knowledge and minimum five (5) years coaching experience at an association level with the ability to identify high potential talent
- High level of understanding and awareness of BV’s Child Safety policy and protocols
- Highly organised with the ability to be self-motivated, responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to groups in a positive and motivating manner
- The desire to develop and educate others in the field of basketball and coaching
- High level of emotional intelligence and a proven ability to build professional relationships with a large, diverse group of stakeholders, including strong existing relationships with key influencers across Victorian Basketball
- The willingness to commit to the inclusion of all members of our culturally diverse community in the sport of Basketball
- The ability to analyse data and make recommendations for future improvement
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft – Outlook, Word, Excel, StackTeamsApp, Sportscode, HUDL)
- Effective time management skills
