Cockburn Basketball Association (CBA), located at Wally Hagan Stadium in Hamilton Hill, aspires to be Western Australia’s Leading Family Basketball Association. The Cougar Family values care, connection and commitment at the heart of its operation. The Association proudly has more than 3,000 members across 330 competition teams, 30 representative teams, two NBL1 West Basketball League programs, and booming participation programs (including Australia’s largest Aussie Hoops program).
Reporting directly to the Cockburn Basketball Association Board of Directors (via the President), the CEO is responsible for the operational delivery, leadership and execution of the Association’s strategic plan. The CEO is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Association, inclusive of developing appropriate strategies for growth and continuous development across all business areas of the CBA.
The CEO will have a strong focus on acquiring a new stadium, association governance structures, team leadership and human resources, strategy implementation, commercial growth, brand and marketing, NBL1 administration and financial management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (refer to attached position description for full details)
- Stadium Development - Lead the CBA’s process (in consultation with the board) to deliver a new Cockburn Basketball Stadium with the City of Cockburn.
- Competitions - Ensure CBA competitions are effective, well-resourced, run and governed, maximising the use and profitability of CBA’s available courts.
- Participation - Ensure CBA participation programs are effective, well-resourced, run and governed.
- WA Basketball League - Ensure the CBA WABL program is effective, well-resourced, run and governed.
- NBL1 - Ensure the CBA NBL1 program is effective, well-resourced, run and governed. Oversee all sponsorship arrangements, player recruitment and contracts, coach and player management, conflict resolution, and overall strategic direction of the NBL1 programs.
- Marketing, Brand and Communication - Develop, maintain, review, and execute the marketing and brand messages, key communication channels (including social media) as it relates to Cockburn Basketball Association.
- Commercialisation and Sponsorship - Ensure the Cockburn Basketball Association has appropriate (and economical) commercial offerings to brands, in-line with the Association’s brand vision. Ensure the sponsorship budget is met, exploring new and innovative strategies for increasing the Association’s commercial reach and impact.
- Facilities Management - Assist the BOM to develop processes to ensure stadium functionality, condition, maintenance and cleanliness.
- Financial Management, Governance, and WHS
- Human Resources - Manage all staff and volunteers of the stadium, including recruitment, induction, performance, and allocation of time to maximise return from key business areas.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
- At least three years (preferred 5 years or more) of executive management of a community sporting organisation, not-for-profit membership-based organisation, or another relevant organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in administration and asset management.
- Demonstrated experience leading a high-performance sporting program.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Local Government on the acquisition and development of facilities.
- Demonstrated experience in the creation, maintenance and further development of a sporting brand.
- Deep knowledge of the basketball landscape locally or nationally.
- Commercial acumen in the context of sporting organisations.
- Ability to lead, communicate, inspire and motivate staff and stakeholders.
- Professional interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to develop strong relationships with a broad and diverse stakeholder base.
- Ability to embrace and drive innovation and change within the workplace setting.
- Capacity to produce reports and provide executive commentary.
