The Public Relations Executive is an integral member of the Beyond the Break Consulting team, joining a small team as part of the boutique sports agency.

The Public Relations Executive will play a crucial role in coordinating day-to-day media relations for a range of our national and state sport clients as well as major events, and also responsible for building relationships with key media contacts, and developing written and social media content.

With offices located in Sydney and Brisbane, Beyond the Break Consulting works with both Australian and international brands to deliver bespoke solutions.  BTB has strong relationships with media outlets across Australia as well as a proven track record in helping brands grow their digital footprint and connect to fans. This role will be based in our Brisbane office.

Key Responsibilities

Public Relations & Media Management

  • Manage and respond to inbound media enquiries (including managing the media phone and inbox for clients as needed) and liaising with the Senior Account Manager.
  • Proactively pitch stories for media and photo opportunities with tailored approaches for TV, print, online and radio. 
  • Actively identify and action strategic media opportunities to improve the volume and quality of the client’s presence in the media – including media releases, electronic audio-visual releases, direct pitches, video news releases, media alerts and so on.   
  • Identify media angles to proactively pitch stories and photo opportunities to national and regional media outlets.
  • Build and develop relationships with key media contacts, to enhance the visibility of BTB client campaigns, initiatives and events through the media. 
  • Work closely with the rest of the BTB team to monitor and report on media coverage and trends, including via media monitoring platforms.
  • Work closely with media spokespeople to ensure that they are well trained, well prepared, confident, and best placed to represent the organisation’s policies and positions in the media. 
  • Build relationships with and work closely with in-house communication teams, to ensure that media enquiries are responded to in an effective and timely manner. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing digital marketing and PR strategies aimed at increasing clients’ digital presence and public visibility.
  • Assist in the execution of both digital and traditional PR campaigns, aligning them with overall communication goals.
  • Coordinate media relations during major events, promotional activities, and PR shoots, ensuring consistent and positive media coverage.

Content Creation

  • Work with the BTB team and designated clients to formulate engaging multimedia content across social & website
  • Craft compelling stories for websites, e-newsletters, blogs, and other digital platforms, ensuring alignment with PR strategies.
  • Produce creative photo and video content, tailored for diverse social platforms, leveraging tools like Canva.
  • Proactively create innovative, relevant content ideas that attract new audiences and engage existing audiences through unique multimedia content.
  • Capture and produce on-the-ground digital content at various events, including sports competitions, training days, and media launches.
  • Design and distribute e-newsletters, integrating them into broader digital and PR strategies for specific clients as per the content plans.

Administration 

  • Coordinate photography and videography resources for major events and key promotional activities 
  • Archive all relevant imagery and video, ensuring all metadata for files is entered precisely
  • Manage content calendars for client’s digital platforms
  • Improve team processes as required to ensure BTB clients’ communication objectives are delivered on time and with effective outcomes
  • Develop and present reports on digital and PR campaign effectiveness, providing actionable insights for future strategies.
  • Undertake other duties as required to meet team or organisational objectives

Requirements

  • 1-3 years+ experience in a similar communications role, preferably in a sports environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently, and consistently deliver to deadlines
  • Expert written skills for website, social media and EDM content
  • Experience formulating original content ideas
  • Experience creating content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok
  • Experience filming and editing engaging videos for online and social media is highly valued
  • Proven ability to design and build engaging digital content, with a high attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to tailor communication to different audiences
  • An appreciation of the sporting landscape, and how best to engage with athletes and the wider sports community 
  • Flexibility for weekends and evenings work with some occasional interstate travel 
  • The successful applicant must have a valid Working With Children Check (employee)
