To help achieve the vision and purpose of the organisation, we are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Competitions Manager who will develop and implement the organisation's competitions’ strategy.

Core Responsibilities

Due to the departure of a valued team member, we have the exciting opportunity for a Competitions Manager to join our team based in Rosedale, Auckland. 

As our Competitions Manager, you will support planning, coordination and execution of NZ Water Polo competitions, events, and stakeholder training. This is a crucial role that will ensure the success of our water polo events.

1. Competition Management

  • Lead a portfolio of competitions for event delivery, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the competitions, including uploading draws and relevant information, communications, to stakeholders, logistics and scheduling.
  • Assist, as 2IC, an additional portfolio of competitions.
  • Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of the NZ Water Polo sanctioning process and adherence to the competition rules documents
  • Complete and manage rosters of suitable personnel for competition days, collaborating with stakeholders including referees, players, and staff, for seamless event experiences.
  • Oversee stocktake and maintenance of equipment ensuring that sufficient, quality equipment is available at all times.
  • Manage the end-to-end booking process of facilities within the competition requirements.
  • In line with NZWP’s policy and process, maintain accurate records and complete international and local club/player transfers and loans, ensuring proactive communication with relevant parties

2. Planning and Development

  • Assisting in creating a national competition calendar, collaborating with the development of annual events and competitions budgets, and supporting the organisation with the review of the events and implementation of recommended changes.
  • Supporting the Events Manager in co-ordinating out of pool programs, sponsor activation, and officials induction and training.
  • Working with the Events Manager to provide training opportunities for clubs and coaches. 

3. Customer and Innovation

  • Act as the competition liaison for clubs and affiliates in relation to competitions.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders of club committees and school contacts, including:
    • At all times communicate in a manner that enhances the reputation of NZWP as an inclusive and professional organisation.
    • Ensure timely communication, providing appropriately detailed responses to all parties.
    • Appropriately escalate matters to senior management in a timely manner.

4. People, Safety and Community

  • Support a culture within NZWP where employee and member/participants safety is paramount.
  • Support a culture within NZWP which values inclusivity and diversity.
  • Manage competition staff effectively to deliver high quality competitions and events.

Selection Criteria:

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • Experience in, and a strong understanding of, event and logistics planning.
  • Experience in and a strong understanding of competition structures and game scheduling.
  • Clear enthusiasm for sports and sporting events, especially water polo.
  • Well-developed administration skills including information technology competency (MS Office and Office 365, web editing, jotform and membership databases)
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to cope with various tasks simultaneously.  
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in public speaking and delivering presentations.
  • Demonstrable organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and challenging environments.
  • A willingness to work outside standard office hours where required.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within in a team and demonstrate a positive attitude.
