About Us

Since our founding in 1991, Dulwich-Newtown Basketball Club (DNBC) has served the basketball needs for children and adults within the Inner West area. We are an established club, with over 60 active teams across all age groups and levels.

The Role

DNBC is currently searching for an experienced ‘Head Coach’ who will be responsible for managing coaches and developing skill development programs for players.

It will involve approximately 20 - 30 hours of work per week, and requires flexibility as hours will vary between working during the day, to attending training sessions from Monday till Thursday, between 3pm - 8pm, as well as attending Game Day on Saturday.

The role will include a mix of program design, program delivery, and coach development, with the successful candidate needing to be equal parts competent in coaching and administration.

As the Head of Coaching and Player Development, you will be responsible for managing the on-court delivery of DNBC’s development programs, overseeing coach development across DNBC, set expectations for coaching quality, as well as facilitate players’ skill development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate players into DNBC teams, ensuring accurate placement within skill level divisions for optimal competition participation.
  • Grow player participation amongst DNBC teams.
  • Oversee hiring and performance management of DNBC coaches.
  • Train and mentor DNBC coaches to be able to deliver a variety of DNBC programs, ranging from Learn to Play programs, School Programs, as well as coaching Junior basketball teams.
  • Lead professional development activities for coaches, as well as fostering and maintaining effective relationships with coaches.
  • Deliver high performance sessions for athletes identified in our talent pathway.
  • Develop a DNBC Coaching Handbook including key principals of play, a detailed skills matrix, and an implementation guide across a range of age groups and programs.
  • Develop engaging, creative and age-appropriate training programs for all DNBC basketball programs.
  • Lead DNBC programs and/or team training sessions, as required.
  • Coach teams on Game Day, as required.

Requirements

  • Current coaching accreditation - minimum Level 1 (Club Coach) Accreditation, but preferably Level 2 (Association Coach) Accreditation.
  • Minimum 5 years basketball coaching experience, with demonstrated experience coaching a variety of levels from Learn to Play/Beginners up to Representative players.
  • Minimum 2 years experience overseeing structured coach development, and designing athlete development programs.
  • Strong computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft packages, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record of developing Basketball athletes and coaches.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to make difficult decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships across a range of stakeholders.
  • High energy coach that can engage and motivate coaches and players.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently to drive successful outcomes.
  • High level prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.
