Description

Melbourne Girls Grammar School seeks an experienced Outdoor Education specialist to design, plan, and manage an innovative, holistic, and enriching outdoor education program and experiences.

This is a new position which will be responsible for providing leadership to scope and sequence experiential learning in outdoor environments for prep to Year 12. The program will include integrated year level experiences and activities, as well as opt-in opportunities.

The Head of Outdoor Education will have significant experience in outdoor education and a genuine passion for personal growth and wellbeing, as well as excellent leadership, intrapersonal, interpersonal and communication skills.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing, planning, and managing an innovative, holistic, and enriching outdoor education program.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure operational excellence.
  • Designing, planning, and managing opt-in activities and experiences.
  • Coordinating all logistics associated with the programming, planning, and running of outdoor activities.
  • Conducting end-to-end internal recruitment of staff for camps and activities.
  • Providing leadership, role modelling, and care for all staff and students.
  • Communication relating to the Outdoor Education program, experiences, and activities.
  • Working with the Risk and Compliance Manager and Artemis Operations Manager to develop, implement, and review risk assessment portfolio.
  • Developing the annual Strategic Plan for Outdoor Education.
  • Leading a comprehensive annual review process and report.
  • In cooperation with MGGS Executive Team, plan the scope and sequence of year level camp, on-site and off-site experiences and activities.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Appropriate Outdoor Education qualifications and Teaching qualifications.
  • Current Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
  • Current HLTAID011 PFA and HLTAID009 CPR Qualifications.
  • Current Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License. Extensive experience in the specific fields of bushwalking, cross-country skiing.
  • A sound working knowledge of and familiarity with the Victorian Alps and the North-East Alpine Region.
  • Management experience.
  • High level decision making and organisational skills with ability to manage the logistics of a diverse range of activities, projects, and people concurrently.
  • Effective financial and resource management skills.
