Come and join the inclusive team at Netball Victoria as our Media & Communications Manager.

You will be responsible fo overseeing the development and implementation of communications across Netball Victoria and Melbourne Vixens including:

  • Media and Communication strategies
  • PR stunts
  • Social media content and strategy

Key Relationships

  • All departments of Netball Victoria - Understanding and providing media and communications support and guidance for programs, activities, events, competitions and teams in each area of the business including relevant players
  • Media stakeholders - Providing direction, managing traffic, support, timely newsworthy information, providing new ideas and responding to requests
  • Media contacts at Netball Australia, VIS and other interested groups such as government departments - Providing support and timely information and liaising on joint strategies and initiatives

Key Responsibilities

Media and Communications

  • Develop and implement the Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens integrated media and communications plan, including social media content
  • Manage all media requests for Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens
  • Create and develop strong working relationships with key media and act as the contact point for media inquiries relating to Netball Victoria programs, issues and events
  • Manage relationships with media and other relevant partners, including broadcast and Netball Australia
  • Oversee Netball Victoria’s communication crises management plan, including liaising with the relevant internal and external stakeholders. Including assisting Netball Victoria Executive Team, to manage media issues and deliver solutions around media and communications
  • Manage the planning, production, collation and sub-editing of publications for Netball Victoria (i.e. Annual Report, Event Programs, and Newsletters etc.)
  • Establish media monitoring and KPI’s and report as required
  • Support local Clubs, Associations, Leagues and individuals in their dealings with the media and communications when requested
  • Ensure media contact lists and associated databases are up to date
  • Perform the role of videographer and photographer as required


  • Proactively seek media coverage and PR opportunities for Netball Victoria and Melbourne Vixens planning and development of PR stunts
  • On-going engagement with relevant influencers and media outlets
  • Manage relevant PR agencies as required

Digital Content

  • Manage the strategy for Netball Victoria and Melbourne Vixens social media channels, including content to achieve growth targets
  • Organise VNL Live Stream on Netball Victoria social media channels
  • Oversee programs such as Vixens Live and a Melbourne Vixens Podcast on Melbourne Vixens channels
  • Proof and approve copy in e-communications, also assisting with updating relevant websites as required
  • Perform the role of videographer and photographer as required for social media and PR content
  • Work with partners/partnerships to develop integrated digital partner content
  • Participate in professional development activities, keep abreast of current communication /website trends and introduce relevant practices to Netball Victoria
  • Represent Netball Victoria in a professional manner always
  • Act as a member of committees as required


  • Provide advice, direction, assistance and feedback to the Media and Communications Assistant in relation to programs, resources and initiatives; demonstrating commitment to Netball Victoria’s values
  • Manage and oversee the development and monitoring of the Media action plans, budgets and projects to achieve high quality, on-time outcomes
  • Supervise and direct work experience, trainees and fieldwork placement students as required

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications e.g. media, public relations or communications
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in sport media/communications
  • High level experience in media liaison, including production of media releases
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills and excellent written and verbal communications
  • Experience in social media content and copy
  • Understanding of sport culture and sport organisations, including working with volunteers
  • Ability to set priorities, plan work programs, meet deadlines and manage time effectively
  • High level interpersonal skills and ability to elicit cooperation of people across a wide range of organisations
  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Driver’s License
  • Some knowledge and/or experience working with individuals, groups or communities from an All Abilities, Multicultural or Indigenous background will be an advantage

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • HSC/VCE equivalent
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Covid Vaccinated or in process of
