Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) is the state's peak water safety and rescue organisation, with a mission to save lives, create great Australians and build better communities. In addition to the iconic red and yellow uniforms patrolling beaches from 129 clubs across the state, SLSNSW is a diverse business including lifesaving, training and education, partnerships, member services, communications and more.
Surf Sports showcase the skills and physical abilities required to save a life and is part of our national sporting and cultural heritage. Athletes can compete in a full range of beach and water events, pool rescue events, surf boats, surf board riding events, and over winter in the pool and the inflatable rescue boat (IRB) series. Two of the key events held each summer are the Country Championships and the State Titles that cater for competitors aged 9 to 65+ and are among the biggest of its type with in excess of 7000 people participating over the course of the State Titles.
Reporting to the Sports Manager, the Senior Surf Sports Competitions Coordinator will effectively coordinate the conduct of all SLSNSW Surf Sports events in partnership with the Sports Events Staging Coordinator and appointed Senior Officials. The role is also fundamental to the coordination of the broader whole of sport competitions structure and scheduling (i.e. at branch & club level as well as articulations to National events) to ensure there is a robust competition offering across all age groups and facets of the sport.
To be considered for this role you must be experienced in the management and delivery of sporting competition events including planning, implementation and evaluation. You will have a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and activities at once whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail, delivering projects and events both on time and on budget.
The role requires excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships and elicit cooperation from a range of stakeholders including clubs, senior officials, team managers and volunteers. As the main point of contact for competition related enquiries, a customer service focus is required, along with strong problem solving skills.
As this role coordinates the technical related aspects (such as eligibility, entries, draws, scheduling, field of play, safety, rules, results and officials management) a background in surf life saving would be beneficial, however competition delivery experience in any sport will be considered.
