About City of Darebin

Darebin is home to one of the most diverse communities in Victoria in terms of culture, language (more than 118 languages are spoken), ethnicity, faith and beliefs, gender, age, ability, sexuality, gender identity, class, socio-economic status, income, education level, occupation and caring responsibility.

Council owns and operates Reservoir Leisure Centre, which offers gym, group fitness and swim services to our local community. Receiving approximately 400,000 visits per annum, we have between 2,200-2,500 Health Club and Aquatic members throughout the year; while our Learn to Swim program currently has 1400. We aim to increase engagement in health and wellness for people from all socio-economic backgrounds, and we exist to strengthen the Darebin community.

About the Role

Deliver and teach a high-quality aquatic education program to a range of groups and individuals from varying skill levels and backgrounds. Develop positive relationships with students and ensure lesson plans are engaging and innovative. Actively promote water safety and ensure the safe delivery of all swimming programs. Duties

• Prepare and deliver lesson plans for classes
• Actively promote water safety and ensure students adhere to all safety instructions
• Ensure lane space and teaching equipment is set up appropriately prior to lesson start time
• Actively participate in Team trainings and teaching workshops
• Liaising with On Deck Instructor to ensure student progression

Skills & Experience

• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work in large teams
• Outstanding communication skills
• Ability to adapt teaching techniques for the needs of each individual
• Previous experience in a comparable role is desirable but not essential
• Ability to work across 7 days a week
