It is an exciting time for tennis in Australia and we have ambitious plans to continue to grow the game from grassroots through to high performance. To do this we are transforming how we deliver tennis, with the aim of offering more opportunities for more players and a greater role for personal coaches in identifying and developing Australia’s future talent.  We are now looking for a National Development Squad Physical Performance Coach to join the team and help us deliver on these plans.  
Based in QLD and reporting to the Lead Physical Performance Coach, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring individual strength and conditioning programs for National Development Squad selected players.  Additionally, you will create group based strength and conditioning programs for all Zone Squad selected players to be administered by the Zone Squad coach. Along with your expert understanding of high performance strength and conditioning protocols, you’ll also need to utilise your effective stakeholder management skills in order to deliver programs to both National Development and Zone Squad players.

This is a full-time fixed term role for two years. 
In this role you will:

  • Develop and implement evidence-based strength and conditioning programs for all National Development Squad selected players consistent with their development needs
  • Develop targeted yet generic strength and conditioning programs for all Zone Squad selected players and empower Zone Squad coaches to administer the programs
  • Support Tennis Australia (TA) athlete development system integration and advancement in the National Development Squad environment
  • Collaborate openly with relevant internal and external stakeholders in TA and Player Development to ensure best practise and overarching alignment

 What you will bring to this role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Sport Science, Human Movement and/or equivalent degree (essential)
  • Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coaching Accreditation or ability to acquire within 6 months (essential)
  • Current first aid certification (essential)
  • Demonstrated practical strength and conditioning experience in high performance sport, preferably with tennis players.  Focussed particularly in fundamental long term athlete development principles, periodization/planning, training techniques, coaching trends, and recovery methods.
  • Highly developed liaison, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Sound IT knowledge and experience in using web environments to research and gather data.
  • Knowledge of tennis science and medicine, rules and the sport’s anti-doping code.
  • Flexibility regarding work schedules and training hours
  • Alignment with the Tennis values of Excellence, Humility, Collaboration and Imagination
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check.
