The Waratahs are looking for an Assistant Coach - Forwards, who will report to the General Manager - Rugby and be responsible for providing the highest level of forwards and set piece coaching to the NSW Waratahs.
The successful candidate will provide overarching forwards skill coaching and development models for underpinning programs designed to attain set piece (scrum and lineout) and mauling excellence and create consistent development across all players in the Super Squad and Academy Program.
Support the Head Coach in the implementation of the Waratahs team guiding principles for success
Assist the Head Coach with the development of annual periodised Waratahs coaching and training plans/models
Develop and implement breakdown specific programs for all players in consultation with Waratah coaches and Athletic Performance coaches
Participate in the annual Waratahs program and player review.
Coaching and Training
Assist with the implementation of Waratahs playing styles and systems (principles of play)
Assist the Head Coach with the development of game plans and the design of training session outlines and session plans
Provide coaching on a team, unit and individual basis, including coaching the following components
Set piece defence transition
Individual skill development programs for scrum shape, lineout throw, No 8 delivery and lineout and restart catching and lifting
Coaching of breakdown
Attendance at all matches, trainings and tours as outlined in program schedule
Engage in process of research and learning in area of coaching responsibility to enhance the Waratahs programs and own professional development
Ensure key forward play elements are passed down to the Academy with sessions delivered on request.
Selection and depth chart
Participate as a Waratahs selection panel member
Communicate selection decisions as directed
Involved in selecting targeted players for Emerging teams and NRC.
Mentoring of Waratahs Academy Forward coach and Forwards coaches of other Waratahs/NSW teams, as requested and available
Assist with team logistics and operations as required
Provide and deliver effective and consistent player feedback and player welfare reviews
Maintain records for all player reviews
Team Administrative duties
Maintain and promote Waratahs standards and expectations at all times
Support Waratahs and NSW sponsorship servicing requirements including appearances and presentations
Provide technical leadership within Waratahs coach education programs and coaching to other NSW Waratahs and NSW programs as requested
Provide reporting information on request for Board Reports and Annual Reports.
Assist in creating forwards play data base of drills and coaching tools.
Systems and Structure
Assist in building long term athletic development system and skill curriculum for NSW Waratahs rugby programs.
Skills and Experience:
3+ years Super Rugby / equivalent level across other international competitions
Proven record of performance in set piece – Scrum/ lineout and maul – stats required
Willing to live in Sydney
Works collectively as a team member for the team not individual outcomes
Coaching accreditation levels of Level 3 (Australia) and/or equivalent
