Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, is looking for an Athletic Performance Manager for the Qantas Wallabies. This role will be responsible to ensure the development and optimization of physical capabilities for all Wallabies Squad members in preparation for the Super Rugby Competition, Test Matches and the Rugby World Cup.

Accountabilities and expectations:

Athletic Performance

  • Annual programming, periodization and coaching of strength, power, speed and conditioning training programs for Wallabies squad members consistent with the game model
  • Ensure the attainment & maintenance of optimal athletic qualities throughout the training year working collaboratively and effectively with the following programs:
    • Brumbies
    • Rebels
    • Reds
    • Waratahs


Assist the Wallabies rugby coaching staff in the design and implementation of all rugby training sessions and planning.

Functional Development and Injury Prevention

  • Program and implement flexibility and mobility training units individualised to positional groups and individuals
  • With the Wallabies medical staff and Super Rugby staff (at the Brumbies, Rebels, Reds, Waratahs) co-design and assist the implementation of injury management training programs.


  • Provide the Wallabies squad with recovery methods to ensure the best possible regeneration from all competition, training and travel
  • Work with Wallabies coaching, management, medical, athletic performance, nutrition staff and players when appropriate to achieve the above.

Game day preparations

  • Implement game day warm ups in conjunction with the coaching staff
  • Implementation of game day nutrition program
  • Design and implementation of post-game day recovery units
  • Support team logistics including equipment management and group transfers as required.


  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Super Rugby programs and relevant staff, displaying outstanding leadership and ability to drive team performance
  • Preparedness to work outside of normal working hours
  • Level 2 ASCA Accreditation and Pro-Scheme
  • Desirable: Level 3 ASCA Accreditation

Give other staff assistance as needed even if outside typical roles and responsibilities.
