About the Centres

Casey RACE

The Centre opened in 2009 and is owned by the City of Casey, and managed by YMCA Victoria. The facilities on offer are vast and we cater to people of all ages and all levels of fitness.

Key Elements of the Role

A variety of opportunities are available at both Casey ARC and Casey RACE for successful candidates.

Swimming Teachers are required to maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of YMCA swimming programs, educational trends and industry development.

YMCA Swimming Teachers also commit to:

  • The philosophies of YMCA Swimming Programs and Services
  • The delivery of safe, effective and professional lessons  

Swimming Teachers will:

  • Provide 100% supervision to all students in your care 
  • Ensure correct conduct of classes and delivery of the Swimming Lesson program 
  • Commitment to YMCA philosophy in relation to aquatic programs; educational and teaching standards. 
  • Display interest, enthusiasm, patience, respect and innovation to parents, students and peers. 
  • Construct and implement lesson plans that promote group teaching methods, combining stroke development with water safety and enhancing the developmental assets aspect of YMCA programs 
  • Structure and design lessons with appropriate activities that enhance student interaction and collaboration 
  • Challenge and develop student’s values and attitudes 
  • Ensure safety during the delivery of the Swimming Lesson program 

Shifts may include weekday evenings, weekends and schools

Selection Criteria

  • A love for teaching aquatics and having kids achieve results - however big or small
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and help out when required
  • Enthusiastic, caring, engaging, fun personality

Qualifications

  • Austswim or ASCTA Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety
  • Extension courses in infants and preschoolers, access and inclusion, competitive stroke or adults (desirable but not essential)
  • Working With Children Check
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
