Description

The Australian Sports Commission is embarking on the Green and Gold decade. An exciting time filled with international sporting competitions on home soil, including the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cup, and culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have an ambitious new Strategic Vision and we need the best players on our team to help us deliver real results for the sporting sector and all Australians.

Are you up for the challenge?

About the team - Governance and Risk (G&R) contributes to the long-term success of the ASC by providing effective guidance, coordination, and oversight over the key ‘systems, processes, and structures’ (elements of governance) that the ASC has established, which direct the entity towards achieving its strategic and operational objectives.

G&Rs core focus is on providing confidence to our stakeholders (internal and external) that the elements of governance are managed effectively; through the:

  • Promotion of a strong ‘risk aware’ culture
  • Advancement of ‘reasoned/sound decision-making’ (across the entity), and
  • Delivery of key ‘value-add’ activities and actions.

About the role - The Senior Advisor - Statutory Oversight & Records is responsible for:

  • Leading the statutory oversight of Freedom of Information (FOI), Privacy, Records Management, and Complaints Management within the ASC.
  • Implementing the delivery of a streamlined and integrated Statutory Oversight policy framework for the ASC, that will include developing and maintaining procedural guidance and/or manuals, that are in accordance with better practice, and compliant with relevant legislation such as:  the Privacy Act 1988, Archives Act 1983, Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 1982 and Public Interest Disclosure (PID) Act 2013.
  • Working strategically with the ASC’S Technology Group to ensure a contemporary records management system is in place and effectively utilised by ASC employees.
  • Providing operational guidance throughout the lifecycle of a relevant FOI request, and/or Public Interest Disclosure (PID), thereby contributing to high quality decision making.
  • Managing the ASC’s privacy obligations, resolving privacy complaints, investigating potential privacy breaches, promoting access to personal information, and providing internal guidance and awareness on privacy matters.
  • Anticipating and assessing the impact of changes in Government policy and contribute to the development of appropriate responses from the Statutory Oversight function.
  • Collegiately working with other corporate and operational functions, to ensure integrated user-centred solutions.

About you - we are looking for highly motivated individuals with a strong background in records management, as well excellent communication skills, and experience in leading and delivering quality business outcomes to meet strategic priorities. You will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a high performing team, establish and maintain effective partnerships, and provide timely, compelling, and concise advice to support effective decision making.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a tertiary (or relevant) qualification and/or demonstrated knowledge and experience with managing corporate governance frameworks, including digital records management, information governance, freedom of information, privacy and public interest disclosure, and complaints handling.
  • Experience in undertaking work that may be sensitive and require a high level of confidentiality, operate under broad direction, and exercise a considerable degree of independence.
  • Deliver quality advice and reporting on relevant issues to executive members and senior management, displaying attention to detail and effective decision making.
  • Lead a team of two staff in the Information and Records Management team.
