About Red Shed:

Launching in Canberra in 2024, Red Shed is set to be a world-class rowing facility with an unwavering mission: “Rowing for All.” We see rowing as more than just a sport; it's a powerful agent of positive transformation for our community.

Red Shed, an ambitious project by the Black Mountain Rowing Club Inc. (BMRC) will provide diverse rowing programs for individuals at all ages, stages and abilities. Complementing these offerings are community activities, exercises, gym facilities and a state-of-the-art recovery centre. To support our diverse range of programs, Red Shed will also host an on-site café and a lakeside multipurpose space ideal for events.

Red Shed is not a racing club. Instead, it will provide Canberrans with a venue and equipment to enable individuals to meet their own goals in rowing and work collaboratively with Rowing ACT and Rowing Australia to nurture and support elite athletes.

About the Role:

Join Red Shed's dynamic team as a Rowing Coach and make a significant impact on our community's rowing future. Collaborating closely with the Head Rowing Coach, you'll lead innovative programs catering to individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Your passion and commitment will drive Red Shed's rowing initiatives to new heights, fostering excellence and inclusivity.

In this role, you'll ensure safe and enjoyable rowing sessions year-round, embodying our vision of 'Rowing for All.' With a focus on community engagement and program success, the ideal candidate will embody our values, leaving a lasting positive imprint on our community.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Coach rowers of various levels and groups including Learn-to-row, Juniors, Adults, Para and Elite rowers as assigned by the Head Rowing Coach.
  • Deliver fun rowing programs that cater to all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training plans as directed by the Head Rowing Coach.
  • Participate in induction sessions, professional development opportunities, coach meetings, and safety training activities as required.
  • Attend all training sessions, camps, and events as directed by the Head Rowing Coach.
  • Undertake any other rowing-related duties as assigned by the Head Rowing Coach.
  • Promote the Red Shed programs positively within the community.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head Coach to ensure the success of all rowing programs.
  • Nurture a culture of excellence, resilience, and inclusivity among participants.
  • Adhere to and implement Red Shed's Policies and Procedures.
  • Take proactive measures to ensure the safety of all participants, including identifying and reporting risks.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience in rowing coaching at various levels.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of individuals.
  • Passion for community engagement and the transformative power of rowing.
  • Knowledge of adaptive rowing practices is desirable.
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Check (essential).
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Accreditation.
  • Desired - Rowing Australia Level 1, 2, or 3 Coach Accreditation.
  • Current Boat Licence (any state or territory).

While the Red Shed is still undergoing construction, this role is available to start June 2024.
