AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Cyclo-cross, Esports, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships athletes.

Team Purpose

AusCycling’s Sport Pillar oversees events and racing; workforce education and accreditation programs; competition rules and the State / Territory delivery network.

Position Purpose         

The Head of Events (Mountain Bike and CX) is responsible for managing the development and delivery of AusCycling’s Mountain Bike and Cyclo-cross portfolio.

Working closely with colleagues across the Sport, Commercial and Performance pillars, this position will support AusCycling’s commercial and pathways strategy; and will develop and strengthen our partnership and knowledge networks that enhance our strategic outcomes.

Responsibilities          

The Head of Events (Mountain Bike & Cyclo-cross) will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of AusCycling’s Mountain Bike and CX program. 

Events

  • Lead the Mountain Bike event delivery team - staff, commissaires & volunteers.
  • Lead the planning of the MTB and CX calendar for International, National, State and Territory events.
  • Develop, delivery and review annual event operations plans and budgets for Oceania, National Championships and National Series.
  • Manage key partner and supplier relationships.
  • Maintain and evolve the Mountain Bike Event Operations standards.
  • Contribute to risk and critical incident planning and act as a member of the critical incident management team where required.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to ensure partner deliverables are met.
  • Work closely with the Pathways team to ensure pathway development is optimised in events.
  • With a focus on delivering outstanding event experiences, contribute to the continuous development of people, processes, and operational capabilities across the network. 
  • Work with AusCycling’s Integrity Manager to ensure participants are aware of and adhering to the National Integrity Framework.
  • Support MTB Major events as allocated.

Community Engagement

  • Work closely with the AusCycling membership, marketing, and media team to promote and build awareness of the annual events program.
  • Work closely with the State Operations Managers to increase club and member awareness and participation in AusCycling’s events.
  • Work closely with the club leaders to identify opportunities to grow Mountain Bike and Cyclo-cross participation.
  • Integrate participation opportunities and strategies into targeted events.

Insights & Reporting

  • Collect and report on event data, insights, and learnings to measure the impact and contribute to continuous improvement of AusCycling’s event products.
  • Report on all Mountain Bike events and series conducted by AusCycling.
  • Technical
  • Maintain the Mountain Bike and Cyclo-cross Technical Regulations including the review process.
